Most Wanted Gift

I was starting my list of people and gifts and realized that I have no clue on what to get people this year. From kids to adults I am at a lost. So I figured I would go to my GD Family and see what your top 3 gifts you have received or would like to receive ( within reason - no car or house ... LOL ) in the past or this year. My age range varies greatly so all ideas would be appreciated. Maybe this could help others out as well but it will definitely help me.

This is going to sound cliche, and not really going to be helpful to you, but I just want to be thought of.  My favorite gift last year was one I didn't get. My daughter in law took the time to go online and look up weighted blankets. I would love to have one, and she knows it, and she did some research. Now, it turned out she couldn't find one she could afford. But the fact that she put thought into it made me cry. I honestly don't even remember what I ended up getting from them, but I'll always remember that she thought of me.  I raised (and spoiled) 2 boys, and I just never get that out of any of them.

I think the gifts I loved the most are the ones I use every single day: A k-cup maker (not Kuerig), An Amazon Alexa Echo, and a pair of Llbean Moose slippers. What I hope the most to get this year is some of my grown kids TIME to help us do some things in and around the house that hubby and I are no longer able to do. (I don't look for this to really happen - but a gal can wish).

Yeah, I could use some help with ideas this year...all of my children are working so they can pretty much by what they "want" prior to Christmas...the $60 xbox games I normally get my now 18 y/o during BF for like $25 he will probably get himself instead of waiting to play them on Christmas...I don't want to give gift all cards because I like seeing the presents under the tree...

1.  My most wanted gift this year was going to be the Echo Spot but I didn't want to wait that long to get it so I bought one on Prime Day.  I love it more than my Dots and use it as my alarm clock.  Love the "start my day" feature.

2.  The current #1 wish list item is now a new nook Glowlight.  My current nook is old and doesn't have a built in reading light so it's way past time for an upgrade.  I'm an avid reader and use my nook just as much as reading an actual book.  So I'm asking for that combined with a B&N gift card to buy books.

3.  Two years ago I asked for some wireless earbuds.  Never had much of a need for them but now since upgrading my iPhone I no longer have a earbud jack so they will finally be a necessity.  Along the same lines, we gave my elderly father some wireless over-the-ear headphones so he could watch videos on YouTube without disturbing the entire house.  :)

I struggle with the same thing for my "employees".  I only have 2, but one is 30yrs old and one is 63 years old.  My budget is around $30 each.  But, without just giving a gift card for that $ amount I'm lost!!!

I have 4 employees. Last year, I got them each a gel hot/cold pack (there had been some discussion about them a few months earlier so I ordered them on the sly. lol) and I ordered Mrs. Prindables chocolate coated caramel apples from QVC.  They went over well and I know they will be getting one again this year. I also give them to the grandkids' teachers. https://www.qvc.com/kitchen-&-food/mrs.-prindables/_/N-lglvZ1z12yri/c.html?redirectTerm=mrs.+prindables

Most of my children are adults too so we made a simple rule. They give me a list and if its on the list they will not buy it for themselves, so if they want to buy it on BF it does not go on the list.

That is so touching......now if I can pull it off I can buy me something this year.

I did gift cards last year and my nephews seemed disappointed and so I wanted to actually buy them something they would like. I might have to take them to the store and let them show me and then go back and buy it but with TRU now gone it only leaves a few places in my area.

I LOVE MS.PRINDABLES APPLES..... One of my clients usually send some to the office around the holidays and it is the only time I am the first one at the snack table to collect one of each flavor. Okay so have to figure out whom will receive this on my list.

Exactly. The older ones are the tricky ones. Some like money but others want an actual gift......I have a niece that just started college so I was thinking about something that could help her in her dorm room or studying...

Nice approach so if you dont list it, it is not an option to buy. That will take a lot of the headache out of the search. I dont want to stress out this year as I am counting down the years before my 1st DD turns 18 and trying to cherish every year before they are "grown"...

My oldest is 34 and my youngest is 15 so I too am cherishing the time she has before adulthood becomes a reality for her

As far as the lists I use them but I can buy things not on the list if I see something they would like but the things on the list they can’t buy for themselves I also share the list if needed with spouses siblings etc

What I've learned over the years is that kids (especially younger ones) still like opening packages, can't say I blame them...a gift card is fine as long as there's a wrapped gift to go with it...

I think your niece would love something to go in her dorm room, inquire about what she still may want/need that she doesn't already have...a small inexpensive microwave w/ say a $20 GC for food/snacks or a snack care package of her favorites, an Echo Dot, a breakfast center (has a toaster oven/coffee maker all in one), a reading pillow... just a few ideas...browse Amazon I'm sure you'll get plenty of ideas...

If she can’t think of anything she needs maybe you could send her a small care package for the next few month she is away in college (I loved getting mail at school)? Or send her back to school with a bunch of envelopes that she can open at a later date for specific events or times, like:

Open when you feel homesick (include photos of family and friends)

Open when you need a pick me up (include granola or protein bars or coffee or a Starbucks gift card)

Open when you need a break (include a dvd or movie theater gift card)

Open when hungry (include favorite snacks or a fast food gift card)

Open when you feel adventurous (a gas gift card)

Have a card that goes with it explaining it and one thing to open while she is still home for winter break.

Thanks, though I can’t take full credit as I found it on Pinterest. I did this when my husband had to be overseas for his job for 6 months a few years back. I wrote a nice personal message in a card included in each envelope too. My husband kept all the cards and still brings up how much they meant to him. Sometimes it’s more the effort and heart involved that counts than anything else.

I agree, I still get something for the "kids" (all in their late 20's to 40's). I feel a qift card is so impersonnal by itself. This year for the girls I already picked up Lock & Locks for the older ones from QVC and for the younger ones I found Vera Bradley Weekender bags super cheap. Haven't found/seen anything for the guys yet. They still get gift cards, but they have always loved the little extra gift I have found.

We give gift cards, but I always include a gift with it (usually around 25.00). This year I got Lock & Lock from QVC (it's a set of 20 nestable pieces with 4 pieces that nest into themselves so each person gets their own unique 4 piece set) and Vera Bradley Weekender Bags that I got on a super clearence. I have gotten diamond necklaces from Zales for 20.00 each on their super sales in years past. The younger ones liked that. The older guys all have bars in their basements. One year I got them all a combo bottle opener and glass where the bottle caps fall in to. They all loved that.

WONDERFUL IDEA!!!!! Maybe we can incorporate this with the kids going to school at our church as well

I feel the same way about gift cards...there's no thought put into it...

Oh wow!  The Lock & Lock sets and the VB weekender bags are perfect for girls!  I adore my VB weekender bag and I really need to replace some Lock & Lock but I keep resisting.  LOL.

Okay, TBH I had to google the VB Weekender bag...and my wife loves Vera Bradley... It must be a slow month for me or something but I ordered her one this morning so that is one thing for her.

I looked on QVC to see if they had it, and they do...on 4 easy payments, may have to order this for my daughter so she can stop borrowing my luggage...

QVC and their easy pays get me in so much trouble!  LOL     :)

I also love VB cosmetic travel bags.  They are expensive to me but well worth the money.  Mine have been put through the ringer and have help up quite well.  That would be a nice little compliment to the weekender bag for your daughter if you decide to get the bag for her.  VB site usually has fairly good sales and some even with free shipping with no minimum purchase throughout the year but especially during the holiday season.
