From Radioshack:

Many young children sleep so deeply that even the loudest conventional smoke detector won't wake them. The KidSmart Vocal Smoke Detector offers the solution. It lets you record a personalized message to alert your children and provide escape instructions in the event of an emergency. This smoke detector uses the brain's ability to recognize one's own name or a "familiar voice" even while sleeping. At the first hint of smoke or fire, the KidSmart Vocal Smoke Detector gives kids evacuation instructions in a loud 85 dbs familiar voice.

  • Your kids recognize your recorded voice, warn them firmly with evacuation instructions
  • Your instructions can help each child recall the escape route for a quick exit
  • Loud, 85dB announcement in your voice is an effective way to wake up your children in emergencies
  • Detector is adjustable so you can aim speaker at child's bed
  • Fire-drill feature helps you practice your escape plan with your family in advance

NOTE: I have 2 of these, 1 for each kids' bedroom and they are loud and perfect!
PS - You might want to check your B&M store to see if they have them there and to avoid shipping

I have noticed these at Target as well. Last I saw they were 17.xx, and I have been waiting for them to come down to 90% off, 6.98. If you really like them, they may be worth picking up at that price. Same as a regualr detector.
