KuJaX Posted February 7, 2006 Posted February 7, 2006 Hey GottaDeal Members! I have a friend that is in the market to use a "TO GO" plan and phone. Carrier doesn't really matter, Cingular or T-mobile. He is just looking for the best deal, even if it requires a mail in rebate. Anyone know of any hot deals?
mrn8 Posted February 7, 2006 Posted February 7, 2006 http://www.howardforums.com/showthread.php?t=824482 That thread gives a wealth of info on the prepaid services. If he has a GSM phone, all he needs is the prepaid sim for T-Mobile or Cingular. Cheap GSM phones can be had on Ebay and other places.
jamesave Posted February 7, 2006 Posted February 7, 2006 cheapest one is t-mobile. there is a phone with $10 airtime for $40 at walmart or target. the problem is there is no way you can just buy a sim card and activate it. it always bundled with a phone.
KuJaX Posted February 7, 2006 Author Posted February 7, 2006 So there aren't any TO GO phones that you can put in an existing SIM card into? He is currently with t-mobile, but hardly ever uses his phone so he figured he would be saving a lot if he just used TO GO services.
mrn8 Posted February 7, 2006 Posted February 7, 2006 If he currently uses T-Mobile, he can just purchase a prepaid SIM (basically just paying for air time) and put it in his existing phone.
jamesave Posted February 7, 2006 Posted February 7, 2006 I went even to the t-mobile stores to find out if we can just get a sim card. Unlike their counterpart at the foreign countries, US cell phones just won't cell the sim card alone. mrn8, do you know where one can get a prepaid sim card?
mrn8 Posted February 7, 2006 Posted February 7, 2006 Telestial is one of the biggest provider of prepaid SIMs in the US. Look here for US prepaid: http://www.telestial.com/sim_bridge.php?COUNTRY_ID=US

KuJaX Posted February 7, 2006 Author Posted February 7, 2006 Telestial? are they a sub company of one of the cell phone carriers? How would one of their SIM cards work and what network would you be attached to?
mrn8 Posted February 8, 2006 Posted February 8, 2006 For US sims, they only sell prepaid ones for T-Mobile. Telestial sells Cell Phone companies sims as a service to travelers, basically. A lot of international businesses use them to buy phone time when they travel.
