I searched and did not find this, If I'm wrong go easy on me!

I went 2 days ago to order Emily's cake from the bakery at super walmart and when I asked them to write "Happy first birthday Emily" the girl says, "You know, since it's her 1st b-day you get a free cake for her." I didn't change my order, but the extra cake was a cute 4" round cake. They even decorated it to match the big cake.

They charge a penny for this cake because they need to have a record of the sale, but they take a penny off the cost of the bigger cake....

Nice freebie if someone is celebrating a 1st b-day and lives near a super wm.

Plus their cake was the cheapest around my area and didn't charge more for whipped cream frosting...

I think this is a fairly standard practice at several supermarkets. When our daughter turned 1, my wife heard about this sort of thing and started calling around. All 3 supermarkets we frequented had free cakes for first birthdays.

Moral of the story: if this is something that interests you, definitely check with yours.

Although we went in to Kings Soopers the week before Thanksgiving a few years ago to order ds's free cake. I got a call the evening before Thanksgiving telling me that they had made a mistake. The cake was only free if I bought a full sheet cake to go with it. I was ticked!!! It was the night before Thanksgiving and I had no cake. Luckily my dh threw a fit a they gave us the cake.
