Someone i work with told me about his favorite one through out the years: a box of chocolates...... Each one with a bite eaten out of it! Made me cringe and laugh, and i might do it next time! He also recalled a " california snowman". A ziplock bag of water with a couple button for eyes and such.

those are horrible... i dont think it it suppose to be garbage . my understanding of white elephant gifts are similar to a grab bag gift.

its a chance to regift something if you have something like that..or to get something that is an awesome deal,so there is a higher value item then what is required.

whats the price range your trying to fill?

I have to admit that for most white elephant gift exchanges, I usually find something unused around the house or something that I got the year before and didn't like or use and give that, but 99% of the gift exchange parties that we do are the dirty santa kind where it's more in for the fun of it and the "stealing" aspect rather than getting something that someone would actually like and use  LOL

Depending on the dollar amount and who is participating, things like alcohol or wine is always a big hit or if not, go to pretty much any store around town and they have a lot of boxed gift items for both men and women (or gender neutral ones) and get something from there.

I'm having a tough time with this too. I settled on christmas vacation bluray and candy for my gift and a dreamtones machine and a blanket for a coworker who asked me to shop for him. I don't want to spend money on crap EVEN if it's not mine. I contemplated the as seen on tv parakeet thing since apparently a singing fish was a huge hit years ago so much so it still gets passed around.

Our dollar amount is $10-15. It's just a thing between siblings & spouses at my hubby's family Christmas. We are doing it as all gifts go into a pile. First person picks one out and then the next one goes and picks one. They can either keep that one or take the one from the person who went before them. And so on till all have gone.

I don't have a white elephant exchange this year, but I saw some great things at TJ Maxx for if I did! One was a balloon animal kit. It was $7.99 so I picked it up just because I thought it was funny. My husband and I played with it for hours! I plan to take it to my grandparents house for Christmas eve.

I also found a great book called "Things Zombies Hate." The artwork is great! It's been on my desk at work for a few weeks and everyone loves to thumb through it.

ok...we had ours yesterday and got a mixed bunch. There was a dart board, mini foosball table, a candle burner? (from Walmart BF sale), a set of mason jar mugs, a counting jar, a ney york and company watch, another nice looking watch with a pashmina, a cheap imitation mens perfume set, a talking mini ted plush, a set of playdoh, a mini trivila pursuit game and not sure what else.
