Football/Baseball Cards

My son has requested football and or baseball cards for Christmas.  Is there a particular brand I should purchase?  Does it matter?  I can get them pretty cheap at walgreens, but there are more expensive brands at other stores.  I don't want to get the wrong thing.  Thanks for your help.

How old is your son? Does he want any player(s)/team(s), or does he just want a variety?

 

I'd be more than happy to give my input. I've been collecting off and on for 25+ years myself, and our 9 year old son also asked for NFL Football cards this Christmas.

 

I've bought, sold, and also traded tons over the years.

For a beginning collector, you may want to go with Topps, the standard as far as trading cards goes. They have a Black Friday sale on their site.

My ds is 10. Last year he asked for Jerome Simpsons rookie card,  and I was able to find that.  This year he just want packs of cards.  I have seen the topps cards,  I guess I will get those for now.  I just know nothing about these cards, so I appreciate any insight.
