Macy's opening on Thanksgiving

I don't like that stores open on Thanksgiving. I miss the days of 5-6 a.m openings. That way there was plenty of time to eat my dinner and dessert, spend time with my family, get the little ones tucked into bed and maybe catch a bit of sleep before heading out to shop til I dropped.

8 PM is becoming the new standard, so not at all surprising.  However, anytime before midnight is a shame I think.  They even comment in their press release that it is after people (including employees) have finished their Thanksgiving meals with family, but an 8:00 PM opening, with staff arriving and lines forming earlier, is disruptive of Thanksgiving for many or most people.  Opening at midnight would allow employees to arrive after 10PM and most people to get in line sometime after 8 PM.

I liked getting up at 3 or 4 am and sneaking out of the house with my sister and leaving the kids with hubby..those days are gone...I didn't even go out last year...i started too, but was tired from cooking and cleaning and did not see myself running out the door to stores right after dinner..they took all the fun out of it. I needed those hours of drinking coffee, eating pie and reading the newspaper after dinner. That was the big build up before setting the alarm to get up in the middle of the night..:(

Things sure have changed.  I went on my 1st Black Friday adventure 15 years ago and it was so exciting!  I would get up early pack a breakfast and lunch and sneak out of the house.  The following year my daughter was 6 months old so I brought her with me, she slept in the carrier the whole time but that was the last time she would come with me.  Now she is 14 and there is no way she would get up before noon!  Anyways.... She was great motivation for black friday shopping.   Those days of 5 Dollar barbies, playdoh, polly pocket, and gameboys, turned into portable dvd players, ipods, and then there were digital cameras, ipod touch, wii systems & games, then xbox system and games, laptop, ipad.  So now what?  My daughter is 14, there is no quest for me.  When I ask her what she wants she doesn't even look at me... Why? Oh her beats are on... I ask again and she frees one ear, looking over at me in her 14 year old way, and says CLOTHES! I guess my days of black friday adventure have fizzled a bit.  Maybe in another 15 years when I have grandchildren my thrill will be back.

I didn't know people were wondering about Macy's, I work there & I've known since September when they were opening. We all submitted a survey of when we would like to work, or if we did not want to be scheduled. The door buster list isn't bad: where it says 30% off Bar III, Kensie & Lucky....it likely includes Free People. Those are impulse brands & they usually go on sale together. I wonder if that means the high end jeans will be on there? Time to do some recon.
