New iPods coming in October 2012?

I seen on the Apple website that the new Ipods 5th generation will be released in Oct. I went on the Walmart website and seen that the Ipod touch 8gb 4th generation went down in price from $199 to $175.

Thoughts on what the price of the 4th generation might drop down to after Oct release of 5th generation? Or mainly what the price might be with the gift cards on BF?

2 years ago when they came out with the 4th Gen I go one for my DS from BB and got a $50 gift card with it. There were no sales on the 3rd generation.

So...it might be that the 5th generation with gc might be cheaper then the old 4th generation on BB anyway? Hmmm! Soooo waiting to see the ad's!!!!!

Apple is doing the touch like they did before the 8gb is going to be last gen and the 32gb and 64gb is the new gen. So Walmart will probly do GC's on both.

so there will NOT be a 5th generation at the 8gb? but the 5th generation bigger gb will have a gift card? and we are thinking that the 4th generation will drop lower than the advertised $175 price shown now.....and possibly come with a gift card?

sorry for all the questions. and i know nothing is definite till the ads come out. this is the first year we are looking for the ipod touches, so just trying to get a good idea of how it will work this year.

The Ipod Touch 8GB will be the 4th gen. Only The Ipod Touch 32GB and 64GB will be the 5th gen. I see alot of confusion from all of this. The new one will have the 4 inch screen at 32GB or 64GB and the 8GB will be 3.5 inch screen. I am trying to decide if I want the 64GB or 32GB and which color. That is a whole another thing there too many colors to choose from!!!!!!!!!!!!!:eyepoppin

From what I have seen on the Apple site, they are no longer making new 4th gen 8gb ipod touches. You can now get a 16 gb 4th gen, though, which i believe is new this year. That does not mean that stores don't still have 8gigs to sale, though. The new 5th gen only comes in 32 gb and 64 gb. Apple has them for $299 and $399 respectively. I am sure we will see something better than that but I wonder how much.

If you have kids who do not take care of electronics very well, I would go with a 4th gen and try to get a deal. They do break fairly easily even with a case, especially if dropped. We learned the hard way that on the 4th gen you can't just run replace the screen...like you could on the 3rd gen. The prices are coming down, though, so you might get a pretty reasonable price for the kid who still needs to prove they can be responsible.

That said, if your kid does well, I would not buy the 8gb. At least step up to the 16 gb 4th gen. The memory fills up so quickly. My son has a 32gb 3rd gen and would never consider having less memory than that. His is loaded with tons of music, though. My younger daughter wanted the 4th gen two years ago and has loved her 8gb but it has been full for a long time. She has to keep deleting stuff.

If you are on a budget like we are and your kids already have 3rd or 4th gen ipods, you might consider trading in the old ones or selling on ebay. We plan to see how much we can get out of the old ones. Amazon, Gamestop and others have trade in plans that are pretty good especially if you kept the box and paperwork and the older ipod is in good shape. We will only pay $100 towards the purchase of the new ipod so our kids are scrambling to figure out how to come up with the rest. They are hoping for Christmas money from grandparents to help. :) They paid for half of the older ipods and we find they take better care if they helped purchase.

As for the colors.....yes it is cool. However, you will need a good case to protect a fairly expensive investment. Thus the color will be covered up. :(

Yes, they do crack easily, my "careful" kid even cracked his. :(

But, I was able to get one on eBay and replace it myself. Just make sure you get the screen and the digitizer.

so to get the "latest and greatest" i will be spending at least $100 more than originally planned. BUT it will have a bigger memory, so in the end will still be worth it, im sure! now i just cross my fingers that some where will be offering a decent gift card w/the purchase, hopefully making the $100 price difference some what less!!

Look at getting the extended care at the store. Best buy used to have an incredible plan. I always bought it for my daughter, case of dropsies. It is worth the money because it will get used. Accidents can and will happen. It's a lot cheaper than a new iPod.

Check store.apple.com for refurbished iPod Touches. You can get the last generation a lot cheaper. Plus Apple does have sales where you can get like 10-15% off refurbished items. Also they are refurbished by Apple and carry the same warranty as a new Apple and they look brand new.
