peppysfireball
My computer repair place recommends the AVG or Avast free versions. I have them on all my computers. He said those paid ones are unnecessary and that the suite ones bog down the computer and cause problems.

peppysfireball
I believe it's the other way around. There are no ads on any of my free ones and my computer tech said to use them so that they aren't being slowed down by the paid ones.

I have never downloaded a free one and had good luck with it. Have heard good things about avg, though just not willing to put something on my computer that could compromise it. I use Kaspersky Internet security. Got a great deal on the 2012 version on amazon end of last year for $4.99. We put the current model that comes out each year on all 3 laptops for the last 3 years and it works great.
