Lenovo Laptop - $179

So what is everyone's thoughts on this laptop. Can't not at least give it a glance for $180.

My wife needs a new laptop as hers is pretty old. She currently has a Toshia A135-S2246 and I'm just wondering if this would be much of an upgrade. I don't know anything about the AMD processors to know what this is comparable to.

Here current one has specs listed here:

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16834114305

It lists an Intel Celeron M 430(1.73GHz) and I've upgraded it to 2 gigs of RAM.

The Lenovo one lists an E-300 processor but I don't really know what that means.

If anyone has any thoughts about this, let me know. Her current laptop has just gotten very slow since it's pretty old these days.

Thanks.

The processor is the "brains" of the computer. The faster and bigger the processor, the faster your computer will be. I'm not sure if about the e-300. The e-350 is kind of like the entry level AMD dual core processor so this might be a cpu that lenovo uses for special packages like BF deals. This laptop isn't going to do very well for gaming or high graphic intensive applications and video streaming might have a few hiccups, but for surfing the Interweb, emails, word processing and general use, it should work well. I plan on getting one or two if I can get in line early enough. These will go quick I'm afraid.

If you go on BestBuy's website right now, you can buy a Toshiba for 269$. It is identical in processor to the one onsale at BF, but has more memory and more hard drive. So if you would ever plan on getting the upgrades. Your basically paying for them in that price. Its not a bad deal either way.

But the 179$ is your typical throw away laptop, perfect for word processing and internet etc. Maybe some java games, but thats it. NO HDMI output for TV, thoe I'm not aware of it has S-Video. It will likly have a VGA output, so if your TV supports RGB In (VGA) you can still do tv input.

Hmm, I swear I posted a reply to this. Don't know where it went...

Anyway, I know what the processor is for. I'm mainly just looking to know how this compares to the Celeron M in the Toshiba that we have now (linked in the OP). I don't know anything about the AMD E-300. I know it's an entry level Laptop but so is the Toshiba we have. Difference is, the Toshiba was entry level 5-7 years ago. So would thins "Entry level" laptop still be leaps and bounds ahead of the Toshiba we have now?

I don't want to buy it if it won't get me anything, but I would buy it if we'll see definite improvement.

Then I agree with Klownicle (for what it's worth). Go with the Toshiba they have on sale now for $269. Or go the WM and get the Compaq that they sell for $248 every day. I went and looked at the Toshiba at the store today. It was better than the bottom end Lenovo that they had on display, which was a better laptop than they're offering on BF.
