UGGH!!!! I know what you are talking about.

We had 2 cats and a dog, and the Roomba did NOT work well at picking up fur. It's really not designed for that, it's much better for picking up crumbs and small loose stuff. Fur will clog it and eventually ruin the Roomba.

They actually sell one that is designed for pets. You can find it on amazon. Ive heard it does well

I bought the cheapest one 2 Christmases ago, and it worked great at this. We have 2 small lap dogs and a cat, and it did a much better job than my upright vacuum.

Our lab stays outside so I can't comment on that, but I have a roomba (not this model) and the battery starts to not hold a charge after about 6 months. A replacement battery costs about $65. I have talked to lots of people and have read the reviews on the roomba website and on all the models they all say the same thing. That being said, I still love mine and it works great for us. Since I got it for like $115 on Black Friday 2008, I figure it is worth it to not have to vacuum every day or two.
