Nice Digital Camera?

I am looking for a nice digital camera. I would like to spend around 300-400 at most. I didn't know if this one might be a good one or not....I don't know enough about cameras to know what to look for. I hear all this stuff about how the Nikon Rebel is so great but I don't know if I'm smart enough to figure it out...haha plus its more than I would prefer to spend...I usually just by a plain cheap one but I would like to get a nicer one to take pictures of our kids.

the link didn't work, but it's a Panasonic DMC-FZ35K 12.1mp 18x Optical Zoom Digital Camera.... they call them super zoom cameras. Panasonics use leica lenses. It's kinda an inbetween point and click and dsrl camera.

Looks great for the price & it even has a wide angle lens! Plus it is just a point & shoot unless you want to try out manual settings which I won't,lol.
