mabennett Posted January 6, 2010 Posted January 6, 2010 anyone know of a national chain that is pretty cheap in getting an eye exam w/ glasses? im currently blind!!! :) TIA
erinplus3 Posted January 6, 2010 Posted January 6, 2010 America's Best Contacts and Eyeglasses has a deal, free eye exam plus two pairs of glasses for $69.95. http://www.twopair.com/
amyers12345 Posted January 6, 2010 Posted January 6, 2010 is it possible to have them fixed? There are a couple of eye doctors around here that sauter frames and fix other issues for around $15. Mine snapped down the middle once and they fixed them in a couple of minutes.
rocky41102 Posted January 6, 2010 Posted January 6, 2010 JCPenny and Sears are both running sales right now for pretty big discounts on frames. How old are your glasses? Mine broke (twisted in half by my little one) but when I called to see if my RX was expired, it turned out they were covered under warranty still so they just replaced them. I've also found Walmart to be fairly inexpensive especially if you need new lenses and you use those high index ones or whatever they're called. (The ones that cost triple what other lenses do, but if your vision is bad enough it's either get those or walk around with coke bottles....)
mabennett Posted January 6, 2010 Author Posted January 6, 2010 i don't have any special needs as to glasses. i will call and see if they are under warranty. it's been about 1 1/2 that i haven't been to the eye dr. insurance ran out. thanks for the info erinplus3. i checked and i don't have one w/i 150 miles of me. that's a great deal!
deb5555 Posted January 6, 2010 Posted January 6, 2010 Try Costco, my husband gets his there and they seem to be reasonable.

After you have your prescription, there are a few places online that sell glasses for cheap. I need new glasses and I think I'm going to give that a try this time. I got my last glasses at Costco and they ended up being over $100, even buying the cheapest frames they had. Here's a thread that helped me out. http://forums.gottadeal.com/showthread.php?t=164627&highlight=glasses

heather.elliott Posted January 7, 2010 Posted January 7, 2010 Fyi - i went to a local walmart a few years ago. Got eye exam, glasses, and contacts. Contacts just did not feel right, but got tired of going back, only to be told, there is nothing wrong. I went to only eyes a few months ago, wearing the glasses from walmart. They checked the rx (on lens) and told me i have astigmatism in right eye. I called walmart and was told same thing. I asked walmart why they sold me glasses with rx for astigmatism, but not contacts. I paid around $60.00 for complete exam at only eyes, but i have returned twice, with no addl charges. I am not in agreement with $ for glasses/contacts, but i have never had such a thorough exam. Also i know alot of local businesses do comparison shopping on glasses and contacts, even with printed on-line prices.
mabennett Posted January 7, 2010 Author Posted January 7, 2010 thanks. have prescription in hand. was told it was 49$ and payout was 81$?????? loved the dr. but the office staff not so much. wont be returning but now looking for those glasses and contacts.
chester5 Posted January 9, 2010 Posted January 9, 2010 Personally, I go to Target, I've had good luck there. FWIW, I take my 8 year old son to Wal-Mart. They have a 100%, 1 year replacement guarantee on their glasses. Last year, we went through 4 frames (I'm not counting all the times we had to get his frames bent back into shape, either). Didn't cost us a cent. He got new glasses/frames in October 09 and we're currently on frame #2... :)
