Visiting Santa

We are going to visit Santa today. All the kids gifts have been bought already. I asked them what they would tell him they wanted and it's not the same as what they said a month ago. LOL So I was thinking of "coaching" them with what they said a month ago so when they open gifts they think Santa listened to them.

Does anyone else give your kids hints so what they ask for ends up under the tree?

We always tell the kids to ask for whatever they want and then Santa will surprise them with what he "knows" they really want most of all.

If there is something they mention many times as the weeks go by I make sure it is under the tree. I think they see things on tv or hear other kids talk and that changes their mind but they always go back to the things they really want.

Kids will change their minds 100 times before Christmas actually gets here. I just tell my son that he can ask for whatever he wants, but that Santa can't possibly fit everything in his sleigh, so he will only get some of what he asks for and he seems to be okay with that.

:gdyeahthat:

I also let them know that he will not knowingly give bad toys (I'm talkin' 'bout you, cupcake maker!) or things that he knows that the parents dissapprove of. After all, he wants to spread joy and kids wouldn't be very joyfull as their parents throw away thier new toys.

Even though the kids rarely get what they ask for, they are always happy.

DD4's list has changed slightly every time we've seen Santa this year (we see him multiple times a year because I'm good friends with the people at the set...worked there for two years myself before I had DS1)

Last year DD4 (3 at the time) through us for a MAJOR loop though. We had put off pictures with Santa because I was 9 months pregnant and really didn't want to do it twice if the lil guy was born before Christmas. We were so good last year, had everything DD wanted, and then Christmas eve we take DD and DS (who was only 4 days old at the time) to see Santa and DD asks for a TRAIN! That was the first we'd heard about her wanting a train, and DH and I looked at each other like 'oh no, what do we do?' There was NO WAY I was going to try to go shopping on Christmas Eve for a big gift like that, especially since we had both kids with us and nowhere to hide it.

So this year, what's the first thing DD asks Santa for? A train. We figured since DS will be able to get a few years out of it when she's done with it, it's worth the expense. Since then, she has added a barbie to the list (which Santa actually gave her at a Christmas party!) and she asked him if he'd bring her more pjs and a new toothbrush (Santa always brings PJs and a toothbrush in our house...as well as new toothpaste and socks)

Of course, two days ago, DD tells Santa she wants a RAT (as in zhu zhu hamster). I bought one for a friend because she couldn't find them and I happened to run across one and DD saw it. And, even though she has now added it to her list, I still gave it to my friend because I'd told her I would. Of course, I'm sure it would keep DD4, DS1, and the dog entertained for hours!
