  1. My oldest son needs a computer. He'd love a alienware but unless I win it, that aint happening lol

So I'm thinking of black Friday shopping. Has anyone bought one on BF? Anyone have any place they can recommend and who to avoid??? I don't want one of those "oh we had one" nor where I have to sleep for 3 days outside of a store.. some of us work for a living. lol

Any suggestions of who, where and if BF is the best time?

  2. Two years ago, I went on Black Friday with my sons who were both about to turn 12. My son Aleksey is pretty quiet and reserved but he talked up a storm that day. He enjoyed seeing the lights and seeing the crowds.

We don't go to BB or Walmart, we go to the mall or small stores. My boys both grin ear to ear at everything.

We bought their Dad a couple of gifts and their sister a few gifts. I actually bought most of their gifts online already

It was a blast for Mom and the boys just to go out by ourselves and go shopping. I had won a ton of gift cards and didn't spend anyting except for lunch for us.

They are both about to turn 14 this year and look FORWARD to going to with me again. And I've got a stack of gift cards to use again.. been a GREAT year as a sweeper, AMAZING year for me. :D

I know sooner or later, going out with Mom is going to be a 'ewwwwwwww' factor but for now, tehy still look forward to this. :P

  3. We have never had a NO NO list, but I must admit.... I could not wait for him to outgrow the mega and lego blocks. They just cluttered up the house.

And step on (insert screaming, swearing parent here) :yup:

My DD has a candy grabbing toy that goes off for no reason. She will say "Mom! Casper turned it on again!" lol.

I wish I could put Twilight crap on the "NO NO" list.. but DD won't do it...

  4. We put up SIX trees.. and decorate the inside and outside of the house.

And no, we do not have a mansion. lol. We have 3 kids, who each have a 3-4 foot tree in their rooms, the live one goes in the living room, one on the porch and one in the dining romo.

We start the day after Thanksgiving and the kids are still into it even tho they are teens.

I love the look of the decorations! Makes me in the Christmas mood

  5. I put mine in the suitcase in the closet (I've got older kids, it's all video, dvds, etc! lol).

A friend of mine's mom had the best idea. She stored clothes under their bed in storage boxes. She changed them out every winter/spring.

When he was at school in October or so, she'd take out the winter clothes... and leave the boxes empty and put the summer clothes in a bag and in the attic (or donate them).

Danny never knew that she also put the presents in those boxes and his present were right under his bed. ;)

I thought it was smart! lol

  6. Each year, I buy each child a ornament, the ones that are from China and painted from the inside. My daughter gets an angel, my one son gets snowmen and my other son gets santa.

WE've done it since we adopted the boys and my daughter was born. I've had a few broken over the years but we still have most of them.

Now the kids have a tree in each of their rooms and they decorate them with their own ornaments.

We have SIX trees in our home. Not that I go overboard or anything for christmas... :g_liar:

  7. I don't think that I even want to know how much I spend in stocking stuffers..lol..

And they all said.. AMEN! lol

I've got three teens, all will get gift cards for stocking stuffers. The boys will both get a year of Xbox Live as a SS.... one will get a Tillys GC and the other will get Hot Topic and daughter will get a few.

And they are not part of the limit that each child has.

  8. The highly anticipated Harbor Freight ad should be out this week, lol. I thought about going to my local HF store today to see if they had it, but then I realized it would mean having to spend 1-2 hours typing it up so I thought better of it :P

The "good" ads like Sears usually don't start until later in October.

Evil.. you posted and I thought it meant we had ads NOW! lol Was all excited to see "Brad" in the thread.. all for not. lol

  9. I'm cheap.

    That's it.

    :tongue1:

    love it! :D

My boys love going on BF with me. The problem is, now they WANT to go. We don't do Walmart, that's too scary. We go to World Market and other fun places like that.

I've hit a bunch of huge contests this year, so a lot of stuff is already taken care of this will just be gravy ;)

  10. I wrap as I go.. have it alll organized and listed out when to wrap and how much to buy....

Oh hell, who am I kidding. Lol. ;) I work overnight (and working now) and usually wrap when I can. And yes, half of it is done the night before even tho I have MOST of the presents already sitting here. Procratination is my friend :D

I actually have half of the presents already. But TWO of my three kids have December birthdays and so does my hsuband, so December is nuts at our house.

  11.

Anyone else get cat outfits for the small dogs? I got some penguin collar/hat stuff and an elf hat/bell collar a few years ago at target. I'm sure she'll hate it but it's going to look so cute:)

Lol. I don't know about the rest of you, but I have three cats and if anyone TRIED to put an outfit on them would end up found dead in their bed.

Dogs are stupid, they tolerate things :D (And I've got 2)

We have dogs, cats, kids, a squirrel (yep, read that right) and feed the squirrels and birds year round in our yard.

Each animal has their own stocking and get a few treats.

Last year, our last hamster died. DD wants more hamsters for her birthday. I'm not sure about it yet. As most kids, I take care of the pets myself

  12. i did about 3/4 of my shopping online last year. I wasn't impressed with most of the 'black friday' sales and the games my kids wanted were NOT on sale. I did great with Amazon also. The best part was that the Black Friday sales started RIGHT at midnight, so I did some shopping, got a bunch of stuff already on the list and then had LESS to shop for.
  13. They are actually having 12 consecutive "Black Fridays".

I'm afraid a lot of retailers are going to run this whole BF thing into the ground this year.

You can call something a BF sale all you want, but if the deals are awful, people aren't stupid and you won't sell anything.

Personally, I feel bad for the retail folks who are now being forced to work on Thanksgiving and NOt getting extra pay since Kmart and others are acutally working scheduling so that the person is working that day without overtime.

  14. My DD is 11 and this is what I have gotten her so far(maybe give some ideas). I have 3 kids to buy for and I like them to have a lot of gifts to open so nothing here will break the bank! They get their big gifts for their b-day so I can make my money go further at christmas time!

    Twilight Throw

Another tween mom with a "Twilight" fanatic. lol. Where did you get the throw?

    Gift certificatds for girls

    Hot Topic

    Claires

    Tillys (Buckle is more expensive)

    Gamestop

    Target

    walmart

    I avoid giving food GC.
