  1. Mine has suffered the same hinge issue. It is a Toshiba Satellite and cracks everytime I open or close it. I am looking for one also to replace the Toshiba one as well as a good work one. But I cant spend over $400 which really limits my options. Hoping that I will be able to find a good laptop for a great deal.

Dude--put all the specs I wanted into Amazon earlier today and some amazing laptops came up around $400 or a little more.

  2. Hey. I just want a smooth running laptop. The one I have now is a nightmare--slow--I've done everything I can to speed it up. No gaming, just internet browsing. I am a facebook junkie. I do not want any fancy touch screen or flippy floppy thing with cool colors, I'd rather have decent specs. The one I'm looking at now is the $269 Home depot hp--8 gb, memory and an intel I3. I can't spend more than $300 since I spent $200 just 2 years ago on the piece of **** that is still functional albeit maddening. ( I got this stupid laptop as an emergency purchase for my daughter which I ended up keeping after my beloved toshiba became terminally ill with a hinge issue.) Anything else compare? The only thing I'm a little worried about is the I3 processor. Oh yeah--am a recovering walmart shopper, only shopped there 2-3 times the last 20 years.Had a shameful Harry potter/fitbit relapse a few different black fridays and one emergency after midnight liquid bandaid.

  4. Well, many tablets have mini HDMI ports as well.  I know my sons' Nabi and Nabi 2 both do.  And my wife's off brand tablet did last year....before I dropped it and broke it...

The Samsung tablets generally don't have the HDMI ports for some reason, but like I said, you can pair just about any tablet with a Chromecast and stream Netflix to your (HDMI input equipped) TV.

And the nice thing about the Chromecast is that once the tablet has told it what source to use, it goes and gets it directly instead of having the tablet get it and then try and send it to the Chromecast.  So even a cheap door-buster tablet should be able to get the job done.

But if you want a laptop, it's difficult to determine from the limited information given in the ads many times whether or not the device has an HDMI port, unless the ad gives a model number to reference.

Walmart has a deal for a $159 laptop Thursday evening, but I'm not clear on whether it has an HDMI out.

Thanks--it's getting a lot clearer now. I kind of like the best buy chrome book as I know I can get it online. I used to stand in line-- eat dinner then go stand at Best Buy but I don't want to miss the entire Holiday. You used to get cool freebies too then...

  5. The Chromecast is a little thumb sized device you plug into the HDMI port of the TV.

Then you can use most any smartphone, tablet or laptop to "cast" stuff to the device and thus watch it on the TV.

There are many Chromecast enabled apps to make it easy too.  For example, Netflix has one.

Just bring up the Netflix app on your smartphone, find the show you want to watch, tap the Chromecast icon and you watch it on your TV.

Oh--thanks, she doesn't have anything right now so I told her I'd find something for her if it was under $200. She doesn't even have tv and wants something to do when she's breastfeeding lol. Baby is only a few months old.

  6. I'm kind of out of the loop the last few years but usually everything but the doorbusters start the same time--sometimes on the west coast it will start earlier because of the time difference. I know when I've shopped online if I find something I'll buy it quickly.

  7. Office Max.

Seriously I haven't been back there. Went to a little strip mall near us about 3 am after doing online purchases because I wanted a phone at radio shck and the Norton System Works for $20 at Office Max. Went and stood in line after someone else did about 5, stood there about 2 hours then someone just came and cut in front of me. No line monitoring at all. I asked an employee where the Norton's were when they stuck their head out once-- he told me. When the doors opened they weren't where he told me, and panicking I asked someone else who also directed me wrong and finally found them. Of course they were out becuase the store had only stocked 4. I was furious and have not been back there. Best experience is always Best Buy. Professionals. Got the Norton for $30 I believe that same day after a nap.

  8. Just looked at my receipts-- I saved $185 something at the first store, and $60 something at the second lol. Missed the starbucks- good for your Mom for checking. That stuff never clearances. Did get a yankee candle 1/2 off, don't think the good ones will last for any lower- santas treats (it's the same as christmas cookie). Scored on the sparkling juices-- they weren't ringing in but there was a huge stack smack dab in the middle of the Christmas section so they had to take the 75%. Got one of those light stringer things. My husband was talking about these referring to how people get lights so high up in trees. Really like the earrings this year, very cute and I love my blue snowflake shirt. Look around ladies-- there's a lot of clothes and coats marked down, I found some 180 ct sheet sets marked down to $2 something, not christmas, but 75% off. Have plenty of wrapping paper now.
  9. My mom and I scored two years ago and havent been as lucky since. We were at the store the day items went to 90% and they were bringing out carts full of press n seal, dish soap, palmolive, and misc Christmas. I still have 2 boxes of press n seal left... We haven't been nearly as lucky since. :( Have had my eye on an instant canopy. We have some long Sundays on the football fields with my kids, that sun is murder with out it. Our store was at 50% and had 3 left so I'm holding my breath for 75%. :bonk:

I scored on scotch tape about 4 years ago I think 90% off and was amazed this year that I ran out! Kind of regret the 50 or so I gave an old lady heading to checkout lol.
