Shipping for the 299 to MO was $48 and for the 499 it was $44. Good or bad, does that mean eMachines uses less packaging?

Spending "too much money" is relative :). $2500 a year is not that much to me (just sunk 14K on a home theater and I just chose not to go with my local BB since they didn't have a Magnolia store). This purchase though gets me about 1/2 way to silver status. Glad to hear that it worked out well for you!

I have to applaud BB on their site tonight - everything on my end went off fine without a hitch. No lags, freezing or glitches at any time.

Funny - my SIL said the same thing when she saw mine. You can't beat it for the price.

For a 5 y/o I think it would work fine, just remember that it does not come with an internal CD-ROM drive. That may or may not be an issue.

I bought the one from Target as well (and is the one that I am already wearing out the F5 key on as we speak). I like it alot, the only thing is that the keyboard and touch pad size size is taking some getting used to with my big bear claws.
