  1. I expect Amazon, Walmart, and others will hold their own 'deal days' events leading up to Black Friday. You'll have to have some sort of membership to participate. The biggest factor impacting prices will be lack of interest. I haven't bought a computer in more than a year and will not be shopping for one. I bought my kids 65" 144 hz 'televisions' to play video games on last year. Before that, my last TV purchase was in 2021. Not looking for televisions this year. My kids do not need/want televisions, computers, or new phones this year. We're full. Just means more sales leading up to BF and a less important BF. Last deal I got between BF and Christmas was that 75" TV I bought in 2021. I ordered Christmas Eve but did not take delivery until after Christmas. As always, TVs and Computers will be steeply discounted. Personally, I'm hoping to get deals on a couple Arcade1Up cabinets. The company seems to be teetering, so maybe some clearance action from Kohls, Target, Walmart, or Amazon? After Christmas, the 'unfit' toys QVC could not sell will end up as 'free after Crazy Deals at Ocean State Job Lot. I can hope, right?
  2. So sorry to hear about your son. A lifetime ago, I was hit by a car that ran a stop sign. I was on a motorcycle. The police asked my parents to come to Anna Jacques hospital to 'identify the body'. By the time my parents arrived at the hospital, the prognosis was better. Initially, the surgeons advised my parents that they would not amputate my left arm because most people prefer a useless arm that can be inserted in a jacket and posited in a pocket to no arm at all. Well, it's been half a century since, and use of my left arm is nearly 90%. Keep the faith. If your son's physicians promise you anything less than 100% recover, find a new doctor.
  3. There is no holiday between Fourth of July and Christmas except Black Friday. Get with the program!
  4. I retired in May. As a consequence, I am free to do whatever I want without regard to compelling commitments. Again, as a consequence, I am free to get up late or very early. For the first time in nearly a decade, I anticipate standing in line for some store opening BF. Not so much for the Door Busters as for the nostalgia. Brad, send me a t-shirt and I will post a picture or me in this shirt in line on BF in New Hampshire -- with no consideration for weather or temperature. I am having SO much fun being a teenager again.
  5. My wife used to complain about our $200 electric bills. Then we lost power for eight days, "Still think $6 a day is too much to pay for electricity?" Perspective.
  6. I predict Harbor Freight on 10/5.
  7. Maybe separate discussions for each event? What to get and What I got? Convince me to subscribe to Prime again!
  8. I joined Sams before Black Friday in 2020 just for the chance to buy a Legends Ultimate Arcade. Sam's was discounting the cabinet and had a special edition which included pinball controls. The deal was made available at midnight on 11/7, my order was confirmed at 12:07am, and they were out of stock by 12:10. The membership was a moneymaker, so there were gift cards and coupons. I used those online -- never set foot in a store. Too far away to be part of my shopping plans. I joined Costco in August of 2023. I was shopping for a new computer and had noticed a lot of great deals at Costco. I ended up building the computer from scratch after someone asked me to recycle a computer. The computer's Coolermaster RC-690 case inspired me to build from scratch. Also a moneymaker, so I visited the store to use a gift card and used a coupon to save on a 34" display for that new computer. Too far away to be part of my shopping plans. Completely unimpressed with the store. I did do BJs for a couple years. It was right down the street from where I work and they never charged me for membership. Just the same, there were only a few things I bought there (including gas). When they finally decided to charge me for membership, I did not renew. I still get $15 moneymaker offers, but they go right in the recycle bin. I would not discourage you from sampling a warehouse if the deal is a moneymaker. Make a comprehensive grocery list and compare costs between these warehouses and your local grocers. I think you will find Costco a winner if you have plenty of storage or are a fan of their Kirkland brand. Sams tends to be less expensive. BJs is less bulk but some savings requires planning -- coupon clipping and ad watching. Too much work. I would also search some of the deal sites for the name of the club you are considering to see if the top deals are things you would be interested in. I find these clubs do not offer savings sufficient to justify the membership fee and commute. Happy Shopping!
  9. Just need a tarp, bungies, and garbage bags.
  10. Just click your avatar. That will conjure your profile which includes recent posts.
  11. I got an old car. Yesterday, I got my crappy Focus inspected. I was not willing to spend more than $1k getting it to pass inspection and not getting a sticker would have triggered a lot of changes in my life. Primarily, retirement. I would not have repaired the car, was unwilling to commute 18k miles per year in my F150, and was uninterested in any new or used car available to me at this time. The only recommendation of the inspection station was that I change the oil and rotate the tires. All green -- not a single yellow or red mark on their checklist. The service manager said I could put another 100k on the POS. I may. So I had the oil changed and rotated the tires. I'll have to find a better reason to retire than my crappy Ford Focus.
