  1. If you really must buy mp3 players for teens (or soon to be teens) there are 2 choices. The best one is the ipod obviously. That is what everyone has and it is cool, especially the new ipod touch. Short of that the other choice is the Zune. Just be sure not to get the brown one. They are not as beloved as the ipod, but the bigger screen (bigger than the non-touch ipods) and the wifi music sharing make up for it somewhat. You can find the Zunes pretty cheap if you look around - unfortunately you missed the woot.com sale. I got these for my kids (15 and 11) and they love them.

    Good Luck!

Why not get the brown one? Any reason other that it is brown?

  2. The Home Depot ad doesn't say what time they opened on BF. I called my local store and the manager said that he thought they were opening at the normal time 7:00am, the time they normally open, but he didn't sound to sure. Does anyone know if they open early?
  3. We were at Walmart today and they had frozen geese for sale. Has anyone eaten goose? What does it tase like? Is is similar to duck? Any advise for cooking it? We are thinking of geting one to try.
  4. Wal-Mart - threatens legal action and affiliate account closure if ad is posted

Target - terminates affiliate account with no warning after ad is posted

F.Y.E - terminates affiliate account with no warning a couple weeks after ad is posted

What is an affiliate account and what is it's significance?
  5. I'm wondering what others do for camping out for area's that have cold weather?

This year, we are looking at a tent with a Styrofoam panel underneath to keep the feet warm. Also thinking of bringing a turkey fryer and making dinner for everyone!

Just not in the tent I hope. If you spill any oil it's going to melt the tent.:g_laughin

  6. I would love that brine recipe if you can find it!

I would like that brine recipe also.

I agree that brining is definitely the way to go. We usually have 3-4 turkeys a year. Brining not only brings a lot of flavor, but makes the meat really moist. We try new recipes all the time but usually go with Alto Brown's Good Eats recipe at Thanksgiving.

    Good Eats Roast Turkey

1 (14 to 16 pound) frozen young turkey

    For the brine:

    1 cup kosher salt

    1/2 cup light brown sugar

    1 gallon vegetable stock

    1 tablespoon black peppercorns

    1/2 tablespoon allspice berries

    1/2 tablespoon candied ginger

    1 gallon iced water

    For the aromatics:

    1 red apple, sliced

    1/2 onion, sliced

    1 cinnamon stick

    1 cup water

    4 sprigs rosemary

    6 leaves sage

    Canola oil

Combine all brine ingredients, except ice water, in a stockpot, and bring to a boil. Stir to dissolve solids, then remove from heat, cool to room temperature, and refrigerate until thoroughly chilled.

Early on the day of cooking, (or late the night before) combine the brine and ice water in a clean 5-gallon bucket. Place thawed turkey breast side down in brine, cover, and refrigerate or set in cool area (like a basement) for 6 hours. Turn turkey over once, half way through brining.

A few minutes before roasting, heat oven to 500 degrees. Combine the apple, onion, cinnamon stick, and cup of water in a microwave safe dish and microwave on high for 5 minutes.

Remove bird from brine and rinse inside and out with cold water. Discard brine.

Place bird on roasting rack inside wide, low pan and pat dry with paper towels. Add steeped aromatics to cavity along with rosemary and sage. Tuck back wings and coat whole bird liberally with canola (or other neutral) oil.

Roast on lowest level of the oven at 500 degrees F. for 30 minutes. Remove from oven and cover breast with double layer of aluminum foil, insert probe thermometer into thickest part of the breast and return to oven, reducing temperature to 350 degrees F. Set thermometer alarm (if available) to 161 degrees. A 14 to 16 pound bird should require a total of 2 to 2 1/2 hours of roasting. Let turkey rest, loosely covered for 15 minutes before carving.

  7. This is what we have every year

    Thanksgiving:

    Turkey

    Stuffing

    Mashed Potatoes

    Sweet Potato Casserole

Jolly Green Giant Boil in the bag corn with butter sauce

    Christmas Eve:

    Waffles

    Christmas Day:

Rib Roast (Usually Smoked, but this year I won't have my smoker :gdcry:)

    Baked Potatoes

    New Years Day:

Fondue (This is a tradition my wife wants to start. I think we should do it New Years Eve and do something different New Years Day. Maybe ham)

  8. Thanks again everyone. I hit my local Guitar Center last night and had a great guy help me find the perfect deal for DH. He will be thrilled and if it is something he doesn't continue with, I will be OK with since I got a great deal!

    Thanks again!

So what did you get him?

Personally if I could afford it I would like to get myself a Taylor, but I dont have $1,000 to put down on one.

  9. wow you guys are doing a pretty good job of scaring me from the 22 in monitor. I was hoping 2 or 3 am would be early enough. I might be willing to go a little earlier... but some of you guys are crazy! I was hoping to just stand around for several hours rather than turning this into a full out camp. Maybe I'll buy one early and try my luck on the price match, and return it if necessary. The Samsung 920bw for $130 AR at Staples isn't looking too shabby after visiting this thread! thanks guys! 20-24 hours!? I'm worried about some of you! ;)

It depends on your location. Call the Best Buy you intend to go to to find out when the line formed last year.

  10. Sometimes a retailer will advertise a very low price for a product but have only limited quantities in stock. If the item is out of stock or the competitor has limited quantities of an item, it is not eligible for price matching. Likewise, if Best Buy has a product that is advertised as being limited in quantity it will not be eligible for price matching.

there, enough said, they will not pricematch a limited quantity item!

I think that you are confusing price matching of items from a competitor and price matching of an item that goes on sale letter at Best buy.

    The Best Buy Price Guarantee

    Exclusions:

The Best Buy Price Guarantee does not apply to our or our competitors' free offers, limited-quantity items, open-box items, clearance items, mail-in incentives, financing or bundle offers. The policy does not apply to typographical errors or a competitor's price that results from a price match

They will not price match limited-quantity items and because almost all items on black Friday are limited quantity items they will not price other competitors on black Friday.

What if I find a lower price at another Best Buy store or on BestBuy.com?

If an item you purchased at Best Buy is advertised at a lower price at another Best Buy store in your local area or on BestBuy.com within 30 days of your original receipt purchase (14 days for select categories*), we will refund you 100% of the price difference. Simply bring in your original Best Buy receipt to the customer service counter while that lower price is still in effect. Clearance items, open-box items or Web-exclusive offers advertised on BestBuy.com are not eligible for price matching.

According to this they will refund you the difference if an item you buy that latter goes on sale, but you have to bring in your receipt while the sale in in effect. If you have any doubts I would phone the store manager at Best Buy and ask them. Worst case though return the item and turn around and buy it at the sale price.

  11. Thanks! I was thinking of getting one for my brother, he only wants a desktop to surf the internet and read email. I still cant figure out what computer I'm going to get for me considering I need one tha will run minimal games like the sims 2, editing programs like adobe ps and have a ton of storage for my files.

You can go with any of the low end desktops and add a external hard drive if you need more srorage.

  12. I'm going to the dollar store and i'm going to try to find the cheapest chairs there. If someone takes them when we go into the store then its no biggie. They might not be as comfy but thats ok. This is our first year doing the overnight thing too.

    We're bringing: 2 blankets

    2 extra jackets

    2 chairs

    a deck of cards

    our CD player

2 huge gulp cups of hot chocolate

some cheese and crackers and maybe a little thanksgiving leftovers.

A book (for me) and a gameboy (for hubby).

You might want to skip the hot chocolate to avoid bathroom breaks, and add hand-warmers.

  13. I may be mistaken, but I'm pretty sure that you can do that w/ any monitor as long as your video adapter supports it.

Yeah but it is hard to type and hold the monitor on it's side at the same time. Especially a 22" wide screen.
