Are you serious?? First, will they really refund a $1000 item?? So basically I'm buying like $1800 worth of stuff but returning $1000 of it and still getting the 3 years no interest?? WOW. That is a good deal. Are you sure this works, that's quite a gamble!
It definitely works. I'm sure you've read about how Best Buy is one of those evil corporations and to a certain degree, I will have to agree. However, their 3-years-no-interest promotions are without a doubt one of the best in the brick-&-mortar industry. Since 2004, I've practically worked around these promotions and timed my purchases accordingly. In fact, if you look at my Best Buy credit card bill, all you'll see are Black Friday purchases OR 3-years-no-interest purchases.
So yes, to answer your question, they will refund a $1000 item. One thing to make sure of is that you return the item for a refund within the alotted time. I usually do so within a week of my original purchase so there's usually no problem with that. Secondly, I make sure that there is no possible question that the item I will be returning was ever opened. I pretty much sit it in one corner of our house untouched until I bring it back to the store for the return. Thirdly, make sure to hang on tightly to your receipt. All returns require it for the most part. Fourth, when they ask you why you are returning the item, just say (lie) that you opted to purchase a similar item (from them also) and you're just returning this one so as not to have two. Fifth, make sure you check your credit card statement in a couple of business days to certify that the refund made it back into your account.
And there you have it. If i remember anything else that's important, I'll add to this later. But as long as you follow Best Buy's own return policy, I don't see why anyone can't work the system. Been doing it for a few years now and it has worked like a charm.
Not to say that I don't have the money to pay for my purchases already. Some people on here will say that it's better to have the cash on hand when you're making your purchase. Saves you from the REALLY HIGH interest (as high as 27%) that Best Buy will charge you if you miss the final day of your promotion. But in reality, i DO have the cash in hand already. I just put it in a high-yeild savings account till my promotion is over and pay it in full then. Until then though, my money is making me more money!
But I digress. I just really wanted to say that it DOES work. In fact, you'll see me this Saturday at Best Buy doing this exact same thing!!

You can buy both a laptop AND a tv on the same receipt and you will get everything under the 3-years no-interest promotion. Don't open the tv and just return it a day or two later. :)
For the sake of disclosure, I gotta say that i DO have a best buy credit card and it is what I use for those kinds of purchases.... although I am not sure whether it is necessary to use one for this kind of deal.
I also would like to point out that in order to qualify for the promotion, the tv needs to cost at least a $1000. Keep this in mind to make sure you have enough credit line.
Instead of a tv, I would also suggest asking whether they have a qualified projector. As long as the projector cost at least $1000, it should qualify for the promo as well. A projector box is significantly easier to carry out of the store than a tv box.
In this way, you get 3 years no interest on your shiny new laptop... and all you have to do is carry out and then return a measly tv/projector. :)
As an aside, I'd like to point out that BBuy will have this promtion every year in the 3 weekends prior to the Super Bowl.
Last year, they also did this kind of promotion in the 2 weeks surrounding Memorial Day.... although this was the first one i've seen them do around this time so i'm not sure if it's an every year thing.

only things. (maybe kmart or jcpenney)
sorry i'm not much help, but I could have sworn there was in the past...
There used to be Saturday Only sales for Best Buy... 3 years ago, if I'm not mistaken.

Just wanted to report back here that using a DTivo remote (Hughes SD-40), I was able to control the Westinghouse 32" LCD HDTV with the Sony codes.
So yes, thanks H_Hancock, for hooking us up with this info!

Thanks for this. The 32' Westy was one of my purchases last year and toiled with the fact that I couldn't find the right codes for it for either a Tivo remote or a DTV remote. Taking one remote out of my coffee table is definitely a plus. I will test the Sony codes tonight.

I think its not really any different then selling the items you purchased and then put them on ebay or craigslist. You sat out there to make a profit. Why not just get the tickets and take them to them through the line and sell them and get your profit that night.. I for one would not sell tickets or put items up on ebay. I sit out in the cold for me and my family.. I am not out there to make a buck but to save some.. But everyone is different and I am not there to judge anyone. NOW line cutters is another story in my book:mad:

Whats a good TV for a bedroom? I have no idea what I need to look for (brand, etc). My husband wants a flat screen for the bedroom wall (LCD I think). Whats the price range of these and do you think they will be available on BF? Im thinking 32"
How far away from the tv will you guys be watching from?

27" westinghouse = around $249-299
32" westinghouse = around $349-399

I would also hazard a guess that a 42" westinghouse = around $649-699

51" DLP for $700 last year at Best Buy. I wouldn't be surprised if plasmas and lcd's followed suit.

I don't think there is a right or wrong answer to this question and it will depend entirely in the eyes of the beholder. I personally would not do it only cuz I usually feel generous on that particular day (yes, even much more so than Christmas day) and would much rather share (like last year) some extra tickets I'll have (due to money running out) to those others who did not initially get them. But what we all have to realize is that we live in a capitalistic society - a world where money is king - and I don't think we can fault those that try to make a quick buck from doing so.
Don't tell me that if you saw a $5 bill on the ground that you wouldn't pick it up. It just so happened that you were the first one to notice the bill on the ground. Doesn't mean that the guy behind you who needs the cash more than you do has a bigger right to "own" it than you. Right?

There was a projector on sale at Best Buy last year. There were 20-30 of them in stock at the Best Buy that I went to. So yeah, just look out for them when the ads come out.

True... but then again, that's a lot of savings too. I wanted to reiterrate that items bought were ones that I would've bought throughout the year anyway... I just bought them sooner.
Nothing beats instant gratification with a savings like that! -
The Sale Price that I got my items for was all-in-all worth: $5293.59
The Actual Price that my items retailed for at that time was all-in-all worth: $9534.79
That means for Black Friday 2006, for items that I would've bought throughout the year anyway, I had a Grand Total Savings of: $4241.20

^ IllinoisMom beat me to it... I bring WALKIE TALKIES. I found that it was hard to hear a cellphone's ring inside a busy Best Buy, what with all the people and craziness. It's usually my brother and I as a two-man team with him in line while I bring round after round of goodies. One year, we filled up 3 of those yellow Best Buy carts, not including all the TVs and computer monitor boxes that are on the floor on the side of the carts. People around us in line thought we were half-crazy. Some of them thought that they should have employed the same tactic. Anyways, i digress... Bring WALKIE TALKIES.
Cargo pants also help in carrying Best Buy credit cards, Driver's License, and BF ads.

Btw... I suggested the projector in my first post because 1) it should qualify for the 3-year-no-interest promotion as long as the projector cost $1000 and above (you can ask the Best Buy employee first whether the projector you have will qualify) and 2) it's easier to lug out of the store and then lugging it back in for the return.
The easy-transport of the projector will minimize any kind of damage to the box and will make it easier for a no-questions-asked return.
Definitely easier than taking out and then bringing out the box of a 47-inch tv.
