  1. I missed out the last couple of years for BF (last big BF purchase -Walmart BF Laptop back in 2005), but I needed a laptop this year.

Went for the $349 HP Laptop at Office Depot (it was really $399 + $50 MIR - didn't see a MIR star on the list of BF laptops for BF GottaDeal). Stood in line from 10:30p last night til' opening, freezing my butt off. Got the laptop - typing on it right now as we speak.....so far so good! Also got 2 50-pack CD spindles for $10.

Then moved onto Walmart after the BF massacre. Got the Walmart Food Processor for $5 and 27 DVDs (Wedding Crashers, Cat in the Hat, Spiderman 1 and 2, etc.) for ~$60 w/ tax - not going to pass up $2 DVDs!

Then went to JCPenney and Kohls - wife got some clothes from JCPenney, but we didn't see much at Kohls.

But to end my BF, I got interviewed by a local TV station while walking back to my car w/ my wife in the rain. Wrong place, wrong time.....raining, looking like crap, and being up since 6am on 11/27. My wife is [sarcasm]anxious[/sarcasm] to see how much of a dork I look on TV.

  2. If the store doesn't have any more that you can buy and then do the return switch a roo...I have had pretty good luck returning something late in the evening... maybe on a Sunday and then heading back to that same store first thing the next morning. Almost every time the item has been put back out on the shelf by then. Of course there are a lot of variables to that too. Would the people working that evening potentially be interested in what I am returning? Is that store pretty good at getting their "put backs" back out at the end of each day?

And of course, you would probably want to make sure that the Target is fairly close so that you're not driving a huge distance for a "chance" at getting it. I am in a city and the drive to a Target store is basically on my way to everywhere. I find that during weekend evenings, it's mostly younger kids working and they are almost never in competition for what I am returning, but ya never know.

If you REALLY want it, I'd keep it at 50% off if it were me.

I think I'm going to keep it at 50%. The place I got it from, there might be a chance it will still be on the shelf, but I just have a feeling at 75% off, it won't.

I wanted to see if I can go to customer service, tell them I made a mistake of charging it on the wrong credit card, and have it charged onto the right credit card. It can be an honest mistake, right? I just have to act like I'm surprised when the price drops.... :)

I already tried at one store and got rejected.

It sucks that I have to return it, wait for them to put it back on the shelf (who knows when) in order to get the 75% off. Such crap.

  3. I did this, but the Tomtom was impossible to get out of the plastic container it came in without destroying it. I have decided to keep the navigon. Do you think staples will be understanding when I return it without the plastic it came in?

Trust me, there was no way to open it and keep the plastic intact.

I almost cut off my finger trying to get it out!

    Any advice would be appreciated.

    Thanks!

I had the same issue. I just had to rip it apart. I know it's an expensive product and they need to protect it, but it is such a pain in the butt to open that type of plastic. :eyepoppin

  4. I think the adjustments would all depend on the sales person you get. Most of them are sticks in the mud about it and some of them really don't give a hoot. And the policy is not the same at all stores - for either Walmart or Target.
  5. Thanks for the response, dextux. I'm HP FREE!!! Here's what else I found out...

You know that HP wireless internet app? Well, the limited or no connectivity prompt that everyone gets....it's a known issue with HP and there's nothing they have done about it. Even when it says you are not connected, you are. What kind of B.S. is that? That HP wireless internet app is crap. :curse::fryingpan

Well, after the format, I also noticed a huge difference in internet connectivity with the wireless card. It doesn't drop every minute and everything seems great now! All I need is an upgrade in memory.

  6. My Walmart laptop is great now! I just got another 512MB of RAM in the thing, making it 768MB now. Also, I reinstalled windows to get rid of all the HP crap that was installed when I bought the machine. I can't stand all the extra stuff that computer companies install when I know I will never use them and all they do is just make my computer slower. My computer is runny very very good right now. I can't complain at all for the price of everything. :)

hey dextux, how did you format over HP's stuff? Did you just pop the XP CD in and reformatted the C drive?
