  1. Ok, I am a newbie to this discussion - but could someone direct me to some info on the difference between Plasma and LCD. Also, what is DLP? I assume 1080 is better than 720 - but is it really THAT much more cost prohibitive?

We are thinking about getting a new TV for the bedroom - and (crosses fingers) one for the living room. I am the researcher in the family - and I have forbade DH from buying ANY tv until at least we get closer to BF.

I just need to study up on what's out there - all we have are analog tvs (our bedroom one died during a lightening storm 2 weeks ago - so that's what causing the interest in a new one).

    Thanks!

    Plasma TV

    LCD TV

    DLP

    Highest to Lowest quality:

    1080P = "Full High Definition TV" 1920 x 1080 Resolution

    1080I 1280 x 720 - 1366 x 1024

    720P "

    720I 1024x 720

    480P (EDTV) 720x480

This is only a basic description!

One important thing...Highest displayed HDTV quality displayed through your cable/satelite tv provider is 1080I...HDDVD & Blueray can display 1080p...DVD's can display up to 720P (upconverters to 1080I & P are available).

  2. There is nothing wrong with buying computer parts at a retail store, if they have the best prices, go for it, they are the same exact cards you'll get anywhere online, and actually, if you're not careful you may end up with an OEM card from newegg or tigerdirect, (no cables/manual/box).

The reason there is something wrong with buying computer parts at a retail store, is the price...you can always find better prices and more selection. OEM parts are fine and they do come with cables/manuals (accept for hard drives)...and of course they are priced better...

Btw i've built over 20 desktops myself using oem and shopping mostly at newegg!

  3. Which video card is better and a better deal? The Gforce 7600 from circuit city or the ATI X1600 Pro 512MB? Thanks!

The x1600 is better! However, you can usually get better deals on items like this at newegg.com or tigerdirect.com...I would never buy computer parts like this in a retail store!

  4. I've scoured the ads to find any couches/loveseats/chairs for BF, however, I have found nothing...I'm looking to replace an uncomfortable and old leather set. Our baby is do soon, and we wanted to upgrade some things before things get too expensive...

Any and all help is appreciated!

FYI we live in vegas and prefer to shop locally or at least be able to see the furniture in person!

  5. What do you think is better and ipod or an mp3 player? Stupid question probably but all I know is they both play music.

    IPOD is an MP3 Player.

MP3 is a file format for music.

IPOD Audio formats supported: AAC (16 to 320 Kbps), Protected AAC (from iTunes Store), MP3 (16 to 320 Kbps), MP3 VBR, Audible (formats 2, 3 and 4), Apple Lossless, AIFF and WAV

I think Apples music store sells music in file formats of AAC only

MP3, AAC & WAV are the most common formats, thus most all music players support these formats, but still not all!
