  1. the ad went live about 45 minutes before the sale time, only things that went live at 7pm actually were stuff on page 1

     

    The games were live and could be put in the cart.... but not the Switch bundle itself.  I kept checking every two minutes and had actually put it in my cart the moment it went live, but by the time I got through checkout was sold out.

     

    Costco had a different bundle (w/ controller, travel case and game case) available only to members so I was able that one.  Ended up getting the games at Best Buy.

  2. Sam's main site is accessible but the pages for the one day sale are locked down due to traffic.

     

    Had the same problems with it last year with one of their pre-BF sales.

     

     

     

    EDIT: Finally got in.... looks like they got it sorted out.  Bought the Vizio 50" 4K  TV (D50x-G9) for $279.  Added in 4-yr square trade warranty for another $29.99

With the introduction of the iPad Air and the new iPad mini yesterday, I'm hoping the prices (new and refurb) of the iPad 2 and 3 go down.  My son has an iPad in his classroom (each student does) and I want to get him one to mimic the one he has at school so he can work on things at home.  I've been watching sales now trying to find a good deal, and while I've seen some prices that have been "impressive," I'm hesitant to bite the bullet because I'm hoping for better deals now that the new versions will be around in November.

     

    iPad2 hasn't changed.... and neither has the price.  The iPad Air is replacing the previous generation which is no longer in production.  iPad Mini now includes the retina display and improved camera.

     

    According to our roommate Sean (The Cellphone Whisperer), the new iPad models mean the previous ones are gonna go down in price a whopping $20. If you're holding out for an iPad, I'd suggest waiting till BF or Cyber Monday, and look for the best bundle, as that's gonna be how retailers distinguish themselves.

     

    Target was advertising the outgoing 16GB iPad for $50 off its original price here in AZ a week ago.  Apple more than likely has ceased production on it so you may see some retailers offering deals to get rid of remaining stock.  But Apple isn't known for allowing its retailers to continue selling older models once the new ones are released.

    It's an L-Series Bravia.

     

    Checking Sony's website there currently only one 32" L-Series model listed. Here are quickspecs:

     

    32" Class BRAVIA L Series LCD HDTV

    Model Number: KDL-32L5000 (Screen size measures 31.5" diagonally.)

    Model features: 720p resolution, 13,000:1 dynamic contrast ratio, 6 HD inputs, BRAVIA Link ready, ENERGY STAR® 3.0 certified

    Retail price: $499

     

    The L-Series is the bottom end of the Bravia line. IMO... comparable the Samsung's 3-Series.

     

    FWIW... we bought two of the Samsung 32" 3 Series LCDs that were BF'd at 2-3 stores last year at $399. They were special builds for BF (model number not even listed on Samsung's site) and had fewer features (only two inputs and lower contrast ratio) than the Sony model above. We managed to get them at a Sears F&F sale the week before for about $380. Have been very happy with them.

  5. I know absolutely nothing about video games or systems. Clueless about purchasing them. My daughter-in-law told me that my son would like Batman: Arkham Asylum for Christmas. Should I buy this now or will there be deals closer to Christmas? Just keep checking here for the info?

    That game was just released, so chances are you won't see it discounted. But it also should not hurt to wait until and see what happens closer to BF.

  6. I read in this "predictions" article (where the guy had 82% accuracy on BF 2008 predictions) that the WII will be $199 ; boy, I hope he's right on that. And if he is, I hope I can get one :-)

    gamespot.com reported a rumor off another website with a picture of a Sept. 27th ad scan for ToysRUs showing the drop to $199.

     

    The same site reported early ad data from Walmart making the same price drop the first week in October.

     

    IMO.... It's not a matter of if anymore..... it's now a matter of when.

  7. My DD5 is asking for a pink DS. I was thinking about getting her a DSi but don't know that much about them.

    The main differences in the DSi are the addition of the internal/external cameras and replacing the GBA cartridge slot with an SDram port.

     

    You lose the ability to play older GameBoy games, but all DS games will work. And Nintendo has opened the DSi Shop which allows you to download other games, much like the Wii can.

    $299 is for the new PS3 slim. Couldn't say what there would be for BF. The past it's usually been the bundles where the deals are.

     

    BTW.... Microsoft has just announced a price drop on the XBox 360 Elite to match the PS3 Slim at $299. Which makes me believe Nintendo will need to drop the price for the Wii (wishfully thinking to $199.)

  9. Like others have said, there is really no reason to wait. There won't be a price drop before the holidays.

     

    The best you can hope for on BF would be a free game or accessory with purchase, but you can even get that kind of deal now at places like Walmart:

    With Sony introducing a new PS3 Slim last week at $299 (120GB model), Nintendo may have to rethink Wii pricing because they won't have enough new titles worthy enough to drive sales (JMO).

     

    Wiis are available in good quantities though, they spent all this past year opening new fab plants to increase the supply.

  10. The only thing I can think of that I would like to get a deal on would be a DVD/VCR combo unit that has a built-in digital tuner. A hard drive based DVR (non subscription service) would be even better.

     

    Since we don't have cable or satellite I've had to work in a DTV tuner to the VCR the wife uses and it sucks so much signal from the antenna that the flatscreen we bought last year can't pick up half the stations it normally would. Going to switch to a better antenna and split off lines to each one and see if that helps.

  11. BTW.... The wife and I were in a Sears two weeks ago when two employees had just started puting up the Christmas items (Christmas villiage stuff) where they usually went. We kidded with them about the "Christmas in July" angle and they were chuckling along as well.
  12. Not a bad list of games... even Mario Galaxy is on it for half price after rebate.

     

    However the rebates are mail-in. So you have to pay full price when ordering and then fill out the rebate form and mail it in with your order confirmation email and packing slip (says to allow 10-12 WEEKS for delivery).

     

    Rebate form will take up to 8 items.

     

    I'm wary of mail in rebates. Anyone have knowledge with FYE and their rebates?

    WARRANTIES AND REPAIRS:

    Are Circuit City’s EXTENDED WARRANTIES affected by the liquidation?

     

    • No. Circuit City Advantage Protection Plans® (extended warranties) have been backed by third-party independent companies for more than 15 years and as a result, are not impacted by Circuit City’s closing.

     

    • Currently, all Circuit City Advantage Protection Plans are fully backed by the Assurant Solutions companies. Assurant Solutions operates as Federal Warranty Service Corporation, Sureway, Inc., and United Service Protection, Inc. Assurant Solutions is part of Assurant, Inc. (NYSE: AIZ), and its extended service contacts are backed by an Assurant insurance subsidiary rated A “Excellent” by A.M. Best Co.

     

    • Because they are backed by third-party company Circuit City Advantage Protection Plans WILL be available on products purchased during Circuit City’s liquidation sales (except in our three Puerto Rico locations).

     

    • Assurant Solutions says it is not necessary for customers to call or email Assurant Solutions service centers to confirm the validity of their contracts.

     

    • Carry-in service will no longer be available through Circuit City stores. Circuit City customers who subscribed to a plan that included carry-in service will be provided an alternative drop-off location for on-site service or shipping instructions to return items to an authorized service center.

    What if I purchased a product for which Circuit City is listed as the manufacturer and now the product is defective?

    What about products that are currently in for repairs with Circuit City...what will happen to them?

     

    • Every product WILL be returned to the customer. We are in the process of contacting customers to let them know when and how the products will be returned. This process will take a few weeks. We apologize for the inconvenience, and ask customers to be patient.

     

    • Depending on the type of product, different repair processes are used. For example, some products are repaired and serviced by their original manufacturer. Others are repaired in service centers; others are repaired by store technicians.

     

    • Our goal is to complete as many repairs as possible, but, unfortunately, our bankruptcy liquidation means that some products currently in our possession will be returned to customers un-repaired. In those cases, we will provide an explanation on how to get the product repaired.

     

    • Customers covered by Circuit City Advantage Protection Plans can rest assured the terms and conditions of their plans WILL be fulfilled, but our liquidation may result in some additional delay. Again, we sincerely apologize for the inconvenience.
