  1. DD is 11. She is taking a few online middle school courses. She is tying up my desktop for hours on end. I want to get her a laptop but only if it is a good deal. I can wait until Black Friday if I stand the chance of a better deal.

She will need wireless internet access. She does a lot in MS Word and has to access a video here and there. I don't know what to look for but I really want to keep the price under $600. I don't know a thing about laptops. Any suggestions? Thanks!

  2. We need a new TV because ours is starting to flicker. It is probably about 8 years old.

    Here are our viewing habits/needs:

My family does not watch a whole lot of TV. We all have our favorite shows but we will go weeks without turning the tv on. We do not own a Playstation, X-box, etc. and I don't foresee us getting one. We own one plug and play game that we hook up maybe once a month. We have a DVD player that is portable and isn't hooked up to our tv 3/4 of the time.

We do have a DVR that I couldn't live without! We always have our favorites available to watch whenever we want. We do have digital cable, as well.

So, what do we really need? I won't spend thousands on one because tv isn't that important to us. However, I don't want to spend $300 on something that will be obsolete in 2 years. Do we really need something that is HDTV ready? Do we need a flat screen? We would like something that is 32 to 36 inches max. Thanks for any help and advice.

  3. Thanks to the responses and PM. Jonjoe, that was just the info I was looking for. I didn't know that the Digital Blue had other models. We have an older one. I am going to look into those and the one you bought. Thanks!

  4. My 10 1/2 year old dd has had the Intel Play for a year now. She loves it and has a lot of fun taking movies and editing them with the included software. The quality is good enough but it only takes about a minute of video. She is asking for something that she can record longer with. I want to keep it at $100 or less. Any suggestions? Thanks!

  5. I have to say we had the total opposite experience at our TRU. They had tons of the Bratz boom boxes in stock. Every item we wanted was in stock and there seemed to be plenty. There were a couple items we weren't certain we wanted to buy and so we passed. I felt very comfortable that they would have them in stock later in the week if we decide to get them. I guess it all depends on the store.

Now, I will say their employees at our store are not at all helpful. I wanted to try one of their laptops they had on display but the "try now" button was broken. I asked an employee if there was anything we could do (open up another box, fix the display one, etc). He says "beats me" and walks away! So much for customer service. We decided to open a new box and hook it up ourselves :-)

  6. Not sure if its still there. I bought it 3 weeks ago on clearance. Its a Magnavox (sp?). I bought it for both my kids as they both think they will be the next kid idol!

Thanks. I looked online but I will make a quick run through the store tomorrow and see if I can get one. I really want to avoid going to KB Toys on BF.

  7. I cannot believe this will be the first year I will not go to KB Toys! There is nothing for my 10 yr old nor 4 yr old that she wanted. Easy Bake oven is great but I think she'll need another christmas or so for that. I already bought a karoke machine at Walmart.com (check it out, $40 for a great one w/ graphics). The only thing would be the need for speed undergroung GBA game, but its not worth lining up for. Darn

    Elena,

Which one did you buy from Walmart? I don't see any of them for $40. Thanks.

  8. Does anyone know anything about the Karaoke Machine they have advertised? Maybe a model number? KB Toys is the one store I try my best to avoid on BF. It is such a zoo. But if this is a good machine, it is worth it for the savings.

  9. I would ask your sister to go to CostCo between 11/26 - 11/28 to buy these rechargeable batteries.

Trust me you need a good NiMH charger and rechargeable batteries with a digicam. Otherwise you will easily go through 8+ alkaline batteries a week, even more if they are cheapie store brand names. We have an older version of this charger and it is excellent. We use the batteries for my MP3 player, wife's CD walkman, our TV remotes, radio control cars, etc.

I'll send her shopping! Thanks :-)

  10. Sears has a Digitrex 3MP Digital Camera for $49.99. I can't find this camera anywhere. The closest I've come is a 2mp with this brand. I wonder if it is a typo and it is actually a .3 mp? I have a great Cannon S-50 that I love. I am looking for a digital camera for my 9 1/2 year old daughter. I am not willing to spend much since she is a kid. Any experience with this camera? THanks.
