  2. I camped out starting at midnight two years ago at CC for the laptop doorbuster. The ticket handout was orderly and the line maintained order until right before 5am when a lot of people showed up just in time for the doors to open. So they could use better crowd control at 5am. The checkout was horrible. That was the year of the AOL discount and the signup process wasn't working properly. Stood in line for hours to pay for my laptop. Had to take last year off after that. I'm trying to psych myself up for camping out again for the $299 laptop, 24 inch Samsung LCD Monitor, and 9" digital picture frame.
  3. I wonder if there was a big jump in people shopping online this year that companies were not prepared for. I had one package from Amazon that FedEx had Tues at 2pm at the local hub. But they didn't deliver it until 4pm on Friday! When I called Wed and Thur to find out when my package would be delivered I was told basically that they didn't have enough people to deliver everything. Sounds like UPS may have had similar problems as well.
  4. Anybody else been tracking the status of the BF rebates yet? I see I already have one from CC that says it's invalid due to the Circuit City ticket number being invalid. I ordered it online and included the order number they gave me. So I've already contacted the online link for rebate customer service. We'll see how that turns out. Guess the fight for my money has begun!! I love rebates!!!!!
  5. I camped out in 15 degree weather from 11:15pm to 5am, then waiting 2 hours to checkout due to the AOL system crash problem. But overall I am happy that I did it. It's much faster than my ~6y.o. Compaq Presario 1200 and has a better screen, bigger HD, etc. The built in wireless is nice too. I like not having a wireless card hanging out the side. As noted, speakers are not great. But it is mainly for internet upstairs so won't be using the speakers much. For the occasional DVD that might get viewed on it they will be ok. Was 14 of of 15 available, so if there is a deal like this again next year I'll have to plan to be there even earlier I think!

Many thanks to gottadeal.com! If it wasn't for this site I wouldn't have known about this in time to "prepare" to spend 5+ hours outside freezing! And to know which laptop I wanted from all the discussions ahead of time and not have to decide Thanksgiving night was sooo nice!!

  6. Was sitting out trying to stay warm in 15 degree weather from 11:45pm to 5am at Circuit City. Was 14th out of 15 for the Tosiba laptop however! Got the printer and router that's free after rebate.Took 2 hours to check out about 8 people in front of me in the special laptop checkout due to some sort of technical problems. But I got the main thing I was after and I didn't suffer frostbite so it was worth it! Also picked up the 512Mb SD card that's 10 bucks after rebate.
  7. I have a Menards across the street from Home Depot which is nice. I compare Menards to a Walmart and Home Depot to Target. I go there for low prices on things I see in thier ads, sort of like Walmart. But Menards is messier than Home Deport, just like Walmart is messier than Target. But none the less, I saw a few things for Friday that will make it my third stop (2nd if I don't go to Compusa at midnight).
  8. X1A No HD input = :( grainy picture + the larger you make your projection, the grainier it will be. "16:9 support" means you will have letterbox bars:( and/or missing picture data while projecting 16:9 sources. The X1A does not list number of segments  (on infocus web site)in color wheel. This is very important for rainbow effect which is very noticable in 2 & 4 Seg wheels. SP4805 = HD input:) , 16:9 native:) , & 6 seg color wheel:D .

If you are hoping for a big screen experience with the X1A, just don't expect enjoy it much above the 4' - 5' diagonal measurement. With SP4805 I get great picture with 10' 7" diagonal.

I would get EDTV 42" plasma before X1A.

OHHH NOOO....just when I thought I had my mind made up....Hmmmm.....I'm just worried about the 750 lumens but otherwise seems to be worth the $100 more than the X1A even if I couldn't get the rebate online. I have a Sony VPH-1252Q now that is a big monster that isn't that bright during the day. But if the 4805 isn't that much brighter then???.....decisions...decisions.....

  9. Disclaimer: I am posting this opinion based on four months of online research, and not any first hand experience (unfortunately).

If you are looking primarily for home theater performance, then the refurb Infocus SP4805 at Staples is likely your best choice. People rave about this machine so much that they have convinced me, and I would absolutely be getting it myself if I could get my room geometry to work (which I can't). In fact, it's such a good price I'm still tempted to get it just to TRY to get it to work. Also, it's the only one that is native 16:9 aspect ratio (the others may or may not do it, but are primarily built for 4:3).

The X1a would be the second choice as this has alot in common with the 4805, and I think many have used this for home theater. The others are primarily business projectors.

I've been trying to decide between the Optoma and X1A and had decided on the X1A due to it's bulb ($300 to replace) life being rated twice as high (4000 vs 2000) hours. The negative was the X1A is 1100 Lumens while the Optoma is 1800 Lumens. I see the SP4805 is only 750 Lumens. Is it the native 16:9 ratio that makes the SP4805 better than the X1A (X1A supports 16:9-but it's not native) or something else?
