  1. I would love to get a 1080P front projector, 900-3000 lumens for under a grand. I found an InFocus IN72 for $700 but it doesnt seem to be of the best quality. Anyone ever come across a good deal on these?

The InFocus IN72 is not a 1080p projector, its maximum resolution is 480p, or EDTV. The cheapest you'll be able to find a native 1080p projector is probably just shy of 2 grand.

  2. Looking for a desktop with LCD for under $500 or so. Just a basic computer that I could give to my parents for their basic internet needs. I was looking at Dells last week and they had some decent systems for $400 with a 15" LCD, but suddenly I can't seem to find any more desktops on sale on their site.

Requirement: I have to be able to get it by the 30th of this month.

    Thanks :)

  3. I took a look at eBay and you can buy unlocked ones for $540 or so with shipping included. The cost for canceling a recent contact with cingular is $150, so you're cost from amazon would be $480, and you'd have the hassle of canceling contracts and waiting for mail in rebates. If it was me, I'd spend the extra $60 and just buy an unlocked phone on eBay and not have to wait for any rebates.

Actually, I'd probably buy the slightly used ones for $425 on eBay to save another hundred dollars :P

  4. Are you sure you want a minivan? Have you looked at some some large SUVs (obviously base models)?

The reason I say this is because I'd take a look at the new Honda Pilot - It's the same platform as the Honda Odessy, but in general a more comfortable car for the driver, while at the same time having the amount of room as a minivan. The base models are advertised in the papers for around 24K, so if that's in your budget I wouldn't rule it out of the picture. If you have a chance, drive a minivan and then a Pilot - You'll notice a very big difference.

/me puts on flamesuit for suggesting an SUV.

  5. Just wanted to say THANKS!!! to Rossman and DeviousTrap.

I setup one domain with hostpc and another on Telnap. Got my setup emails right away from both. Had both domains up and running in an hour within a couple of Hours emails began flowing again, and by early Thursday morning new DNS had fully propagated. Both domains were both fully functional. By comparision ripplehost magically came back up some time Thurday night or Friday morning, with no explanation, reason, or apology for a 5 day outage from Alan. (at least I could get my backups).

Thanks for the deal DeviousTrap! Much Appreciated!

Hostpc was also a good deal as I got in on the 2 for 1 sale AND the two free months offer. 10GB bandwidth and 600Mb storage for 14 months @ $29.99 is sweet.

Hostpc's support is great when I opened a ticket to request my 2 free months credit I had a response within minutes.

THANK YOU!! THANK YOU!! THANK YOU!! THANK YOU!!

No more frequent and often days long outages for me, and good ridenece to Alan's "Do NOT PM or E-mail me unless i request that you do so." Support model!

    Glad you're happy :)

Joe from HostPC is a good guy, I actually have an account with them that I host my emergency pager address at.

  6. Thanks just moved 1 domain to hostpc, it was the most inportant of the two.

For the other that I'd like SSH for, I'd give Cernax a try. But SSH is on dedicated servers only so....

Thanks for the Telnap deal offer. My paypal account is bone dry right now. Can I use the 2checkout option??

SSH is very rarely enabled on shared hosting accounts, due to it being a security risk. Due to the way Cernax's servers are set up I doubt they would be able to give you ssh.

You can use the 2checkout option when ordering if necessary, but paypal is preferred.

  7. The 700m is a good laptop, but I'd prefer a fijitsu over it.

The fijitsu you mentioned actually is an awesome laptop, especially if you are looking for a laptop with a great screen. It is comparible to the X Series from IBM, but has a much faster processor. I'm also pretty sure that the most IBM X laptops don't have built in dvd/cd drives but I'd need to check that.

http://store.shopfujitsu.com/fpc/Ecommerce/buildseriesbean.do?series=S62 - For a bit less than a X Series you get an awesome laptop that weights under 4lbs, and has a 13.3" Crystal View screen.

  8. I agree but I prefer flash based MP3 Players for these key reasons:

    1) I don't have 5000+ songs, 50 is fine with me.

    2) I like the built-in FM Tuner.

    3) Size, smaller the better.

    4) Price, again smaller the better.

    :fedora:

Depends on the person I guess. 50 songs might last me two days, and reuploading every two days would get very annoying.

There are HD based mp3 players with FM radios, but yes you win the size and price argument.

  9. Hi Kathleen,

I would highly recommend the Creative Labs NOMAD MuVo TX for $90.

Here are the benefits over the Apple iPod:

    • Flash based MP3 player with fewer moving parts (no hard drive especially).
    • Built-in FM tuner.
    • Uses a single AAA battery.
    • Weighs just 1.1 ounces!
    • Reads both WMA and MP3 file formats, very important.
    • Microsoft Windows plug and play to any USB equipped desktop or laptop PC.
    • Built-in microphone for recording short voice notes or long lectures.
    • $90 vs $299 iPod

Its smaller but think about how many mp3s you can put on that when compared to the ipod.

Lets say the songs are at 192kbps that would be about 1 megabyte per minute of music. So you wouldn't put more than 250 minutes of music on the muvo but you could put about 20,000 on the ipod, or 4,000 minutes on the ipod mini. Those numbers are actually inflated a bit as I dont have time to look up the actual usage per minute, but if you want to hold a decent about of songs you would want some sort of HD, or compact flash based mp3 player.
