I received this email today ...a link to the news story is also included.

My long time childhood friend has a very special 7 year old son (Nathan) that is losing his battle with brain cancer and the family has made the decision to not pursue further treatment. This will be his last Christmas and he has one wish ~ to collect a million Christmas cards. Spoken like a true 7 year old boy. Though he may not collect a million, a lot to him will seem like a million. If you would like help make Nathan’s Christmas wish come true, please consider sending a card. I know this will mean a lot to him, as well as his family. Thanks and many blessing to you all.

  2. Yes...we will be participating as our family is both Catholic and German and we live in the Midwest...lol

However ours is just a tad different...

We use our stockings, as a child when I was growing up our stockings were the very first "Christmas decoration" to come out. St. Nicholas comes on the 5th for the morning of the 6th. We've always left out our "lists" for St. Nick with our stocking and in return if the children have been good they will receive sweets.

My kids haven't remembered this year yet...which is great because it will be fun to surprise them!

  3. OK...I have a really stupid question...I was sifting through this thread and saw mention of issues trying to view webkinz on a netbook and that you go to google to get a fix....well that got me a little concerned.

I had planned on getting a netbook just because it would be cheaper than a lot of the laptops for our child...I just assumed that a netbook was a miniature version of a laptop and therefore just reduced the size of everything. With this mindset I just assumed it would reduce the size of viewing for a normal screen...I guess the question is - will there be a lot of issues in viewing websites with a net book?

  4. Perhaps you might consider just doing an exchange for the children and gifting to your parents. If there are adults who want to participate than maybe you could do a theme of needed items for a local shelter or other charity and donate your items to them.

Or...let the adults participate who want to participate and then let the others do what they want. It sounds to me like they have given it a lot of thought and are choosing not to participate for reasons that they may or may not want to share with you.

The economy has a lot of people scared right now. Even if they aren't truly experiencing "money problems" that are visible to the outside, the cost of living has dramatically increased this year as businesses and utilities raise their costs to recapture some of their lost revenue.

Plus...you never know what's going to happen tomorrow even in what you would assume is a stable job. It's always good to prepare for the future.

We used to exchange for everyone years ago but cut back on the gifts over the last several years. At first I was upset, thinking that it would change Christmas....it hasn't. Gifts aren't what makes Christmas.
