That's a good question. It's possible since I purchased mine almost 2 years ago now. On the other hand, any time there's some sort of plastic latching mechanism, it's bound to wear out. Of course, with caps, they are usually bound to get a little loose over time as well. I did purchase a 1-Gig A-Data thumbdrive a while back and really like it - it's very small, though it does have a cap, but in its many uses I haven't notice the cap getting any looser. I once saw a thumbdrive that swivels. That is, the cap basically covers the whole drive and then rotates out of the way to expose the USB port. Thought that was kind of neat, though I forget what brand/model it was.
