My 7 year old son has the 8gb. I personally would get the larger one learning from my own experience. It all depends on how u will use it. Apps and music don't take much space, but my son likes to use it to take pictures. He also has a few cartoon videos from app store. He is constantly deleting things to make room for new stuff.
