  1. Currently dealing with an order from Kohl’s as well. Item purchased on Dec 3. Shipped 7th or 8th. Estimated arrival time was 9th-16th. My package isn’t here. I sent Kohl’s a message on Twitter, very quick response. Package now showing Dec 18th for delivery. Even though it’s at the local FedEx station. It has to be handed over to USPS for SmartPost. (Not a fan of this.) I need the order for a donation. Hoping it gets here tomorrow.
  2. I ordered some Armani perfume for my SIL from Kohl’s. Best price I’ve seen! I got her the 1.7 oz bottle (Reg price $70) instead of the 1 oz. I had $5 Yes to Rewards, then received $15 in Kohl’s cash. The 1.7 oz bottle came to $51 which is only $3 more than I had been expecting to pay for the 1 oz bottle. Yay!

I did not go to B&M stores. I considered Ulta and Sephora, but we had a huge snowstorm on Tuesday, and our roads were still a pain in the butt on Friday. Combine that with the freezing fog we had.. staying in with a hot cuppa and Christmas movies won out!

  3. I’m not as in to Black Friday this year either.

I’m totally in to Christmas! We’ve gotten snow quite a few times this autumn, so I started watching Lifetime Christmas movies! (Interestingly, I rarely watched them before this year.) I have my Christmas shopping list ready. We’re planning a Christmas party. I’m excited my town has started putting up Christmas lights. I’ve purchased 3 holiday mugs already! And I just had my first Starbucks holiday drink.

Black Friday? Meh. It’s not the same. Black Friday is practically the entire month now, and not in a good way. I’m not stoked on the ads I’ve seen. Waiting on two more (Sephora and Ulta.) My Christmas list is not really based on anything from the ads. Just waiting to see ULTA’s fragrance GWP. It’s currently candles. Blah. Hoping for a bathrobe.

I was never a get up at 1 am to go to the stores person. I like my warm cozy bed too much. I was however, a eagerly wait for the ads, checking my email and this site often, compile my list, compare the prices, then go out around 7-8 am person. In my area I had good luck doing this and didn’t miss out on my wants.

This year I may stop in Target to see if there’s any stocking stuffers I want. I’ll shop local too. Hopefully Ulta and Sephora will have some stuff for gifts, and myself. Then I’ll probably take myself to lunch, then go home and pull out our Christmas decorations. Ya know, sounds like it’ll be a lovely day.

  4. I ordered a few items from my favorite college football's team store operated by Fanatics. Two personalized t shirts and two little girls cheerleader outfits. They only had a 15% off coupon, but it was good on the personalized items. Their main site had a 30% off coupon, but it wasn't good on personalized. Thankfully the cheerleader outfits were on clearance! They're Nike and the 2T was $16.99 before coupon. Orig $39.00. The 4 was $18.99 before coupon. Orig $41.00

  5. I placed my order at 11:52 pm MST. I was able to use code LOVE2SAVE for 20% off and received my $30 in Kohl's cash at 2:36 am.

My total came to $111 with tax. The only thing that was, no sale, no coupon, was the Lorac Pro eyeshadow palette. (It's considered a prestige brand.) It was $42, so I kinda look at it as getting it for $27 or even $12 because of Kohl's Cash! My BFF's teen daughter will LOVE it!!!

  6. Does she like Alex and Ani bracelets? The teen and college girls that I know LOVE the bracelets. The wire bracelets are $28, but you can also find some on Nordstrom Rack's website for $14.97. Alex and Ani's site has some on sale too and shipping is $2.95! The girls I know tend to wear multiple bracelets at a time.

    Alex and Ani site

Dillards sells them. Nordstrom does too and they have free shipping.

Does your daughter like makeup or perfume? If she does, have you checked out the Sephora Favorites sets? They have a cute lip color set for $25 that she may enjoy. Even one with lip colors and coordinating nail polishes! Another fave is their perfume sampler sets. They have one for $25 that includes 6 deluxe sample sprays and a certificate for a full size rollerball of the fragrance she likes the most.

Right now they have some nice makeup bags filled with deluxe samples that are free with a $25 purchase.

Does she draw or have a favorite sports team? You can find good deals on art supplies at Michael's with coupons. Faber Castel makes nice pens and colored pencils. Use a 40% off coupon for the pens and use a competitors coupon for a sketch pad!

If she has a favorite sports team, check on Amazon for a blanket. If the team is local to your state, check TJ Maxx, Marshals and Walmart for team items. I found Denver Broncos socks for my SIL at Walmart in Colorado. They have a huge selection of team gear.

  7. I finished my shopping this weekend, but I have wrapped nothing.  I hate wrapping and usually wait until the night before Christmas Eve. I've always shipped my boys off to their Gra-ma's house to spend the night that night.  This year, my oldest son and his wife and their 2 children live with me, so that old plan doesn't really work anymore :).  Everything is in my office, because there is NOWHERE to hide anything at my house (we're a little full, lol).  I was thinking I would come in next weekend and get everything wrapped and store it in the back of my car.  Now they're saying we may get another round of winter weather move in Friday and Saturday, so that may be too big a gamble.  I'll probably stay late at the office tonight and get everything wrapped, then load it in my car no later than Friday.  I'm a little nervous about that because I'm afraid of someone breaking into the car, but with a little luck and a lotta prayer, hopefully they'll be safe.

Can you store the gifts at a friend or family members home? Or even keep them at the office until Christmas Eve?

  8. know the feeling dad has cancer and this year has been nothing but dr appts, chemo appts and radiation appts, i am doing this all alone since the only family member close and trying to hold down full time job. christmas is gonna be really sad this year, i usually shop all year long have not had time and dont see any in near futur, will be a gift card christmas hate this

Sending love and prayers your way. This must be difficult for you, especially being the only close family member. I'm sure your dad appreciates your love and support and knowing that he has you to look after him and be there for him during this time.

Try to take some time for yourself when you can. Even if it's just a longer than normal shower or a cup of tea before bed. Be kind to yourself.

  10. I like stockings because you can be so creative with them and it's fun to look for small gifts. One of my favorite spots to check out is the clearance section at the local grocery stores. It's typically a mix of food, body care products and sometimes toys.

  11. I dress in layers and sometimes just keep my wallet in my vest's zippered pocket. If I do carry a purse, I use a cross body bag and always have it right in front. I also wear my hiking boots. They are so comfy! I wear compression socks too. I discovered them a couple of months ago and they are awesome! My legs don't get as sore when I wear my compression socks. The difference is amazing!

In my car I keep water, phone charger and some light snacks. (nuts, granola bar, chocolate, organic apple and sometimes a banana)

    Gals?  Guys?

What do you carry on you in person and how?

Do you dress in layers?  Skip the coat?

What supplies do you make sure you have in the car to keep you going?

    :)

One thing I have always done is to carry my debit card and license in a badge holder on a lanyard around my neck.  And I'll usually keep it tucked under some clothing unless getting ready to check out.

Just have to FIND one for this year!  We had a house fire last Christmas and lost most of the contents of our house - didn't even THINK of needing a lanyard, etc. for BF until just now.  YIPE!  The ones I had were saved from corporate events I went to years ago...

I'm so sorry to hear about your house. I hope you all are doing well and getting back to normal as much as possible.

  12. Definitely research the normal price for an item and keep an eye on the ads before BF and after BF. BF prices aren't always the lowest.

Know the return and adjustment policies for all the stores and websites you purchase from and keep all of your receipts in one place. If you see a lower price and you're in the adjustment time window. Do it as soon as possible so you don't forget.

Know the price matching policies for the stores you shop at. It's always good to have a print out of the policy and be sure to bring any ads with you that you need.

Know your product, prices and policies! :D

  13. Target has a 10% off iPods coupon on their website. I wasn't able to see the details on it since I don't have the Catalina coupon software on my computer at the moment, but check it out. It's possible that you can use it with the BF deal. I know they've had similar coupons in the past.

I saw it on page 14 of their coupons. Third row.

  14. Canon Powershot Elph 330

    12.1 MP

    10x optical

    3" LCD

    HD Video.

This is a good choice. I'm not sure if it's in any ads, but it is on Amazon for $140.25. It does 1080p HD video. Nice starter camera for photos and video. Easy to carry too. A small tripod to go with it would also be nice.

  15. That's a nice idea stacyk9. Very sweet of you!   :holiday12

If you know what stores you want to do this at, call ahead and speak with management. Cash is typically a no no, but I'm not sure how they feel about gift cards.

  16. My son is almost 13.  He plays football and basketball but has about everything he needs for that.  I am not sure what to get him this year.  I do like the idea someone posted of a new wallet with gift cards in it.  He was asking for a new wallet so I think I will do that, but I don't know what else.  I was thinking about buying him a lawnmower because this past summer he was cutting grass for a lot of people by my moms house but he always had to borrow my moms lawnmower.  He always asks if he can go around our neighborhood, but we don't have a lawnmower cause we have a company that takes care of our lawn work.  Wasn't sure if that was a tacky gift though.  I am interested in others opinions on that.

He has a laptop and an ipad and iphone.  He asked for a MacBook, but I don't really want to spend that much cause I have four other kids of my own to buy for plus other family members.  I will be watching for other ideas too.

Does he have a favorite football or basketball team? Are there any teams near you? Maybe you could get him some tickets and go with him to a local college basketball game. Many schools will do specials with tickets when they play a smaller school. Some schools will do tours of their facilities too. Typically not on game day.

The lawnmower idea sounds good. He can use it from Spring until Fall and earn money for the MacBook he wants.

  17. I'm stuck on this one too. My son is 14, but has ADD and is immature for his age. He still likes Legos and Transformers, but he has so many of each of those, I don't really want to buy him more. He doesn't really do much else besides those 2 things. He's not into the cologne or scented body sprays, no hobbies or other likes. He watches movies, but super hero movies are his favorite (Ironman, Transformers, etc.) and he has all those. I'm at a loss, but will be watching this thread for ideas!

Has he ever played with Erector sets? http://www.erector.us

Do you think he might enjoy playing a musical instrument like a guitar or keyboard?

Does he have any art supplies? Colored pencils, markers or paints could be fun. They wouldn't have to be expensive ones. He could start off with Crayola. This Crayola set looks like it could be fun. http://www.walmart.com/ip/Crayola-Creative-Art-Supply-70-Accessory-Set-for-Boys/17117902

I believe Walmart has a Crayola set in their BF ad too.

  18. I agree with everyone, leefamily too. Ask and see what people can bring, especially those that are driving and if bringing something would be difficult ask them to chip in elsewhere like with pizza or bagels. Quite frankly, they have all asked to stay at your home, so I don't see anything wrong with asking them to chip in a little. It's lovely having guests, but it can get expensive.

I like all the food choices everyone has suggested. I'd like to add a couple too.

Ham. You might see hams on sale soon and a decent size ham will feed quite a few. Buy one, slap some brown sugar, cinnamon and clove on it and throw it in the oven. You can mix a little bit of Bourbon in there too if you'd like. Serve with potato or pasta salad and some rolls. Save the bone and trimmings and use it to make bean soup. Serve the soup with cornbread.

Big pot of veggie soup. Yum! Potatoes, carrots, frozen corn, peas, diced tomatoes and some veggie or chicken broth. I like to add some Tony's cajun seasoning too. Make some simple biscuits and you're good to go.

Salads don't need to be filled with a ton of different veggies. Lettuce, cucumber and tomato. Lettuce, cucumber and bell pepper. Lettuce, bell pepper and corn. Even just lettuce with tomatoes is fine for a big crowd. I think most people are good with Ranch or Italian dressing too. Throw a bag of inexpensive croutons on there if you feel like it and you're all set.

I like to make an enchilada casserole. It's so easy and the ingredients are inexpensive. Corn tortillas, diced bell pepper, diced onion, couple cups of black beans, bag of frozen corn, enchilada sauce and cheddar cheese. You can add meat to it if you feel like it, but you don't need too. I prefer it with just the veggies. It's so good and everyone I know enjoys it. Have some sour cream available to top it when it's ready to eat and you're good to go.

Have fun and enjoy this time with your family and friends. Consider going to bed a little early a couple of nights while they're there for some quite time. You can read a book or browse the internet while you rest up. Remember, a rested host is a good host!

  19. You could tell her that with everything she and her family have been through, you wanted to make sure they have a good Christmas.

You could give a gift card or purchase a few small gifts for her and her daughter or even make them stockings.

If other people know about her situation, including upper management, maybe you could get them involved. Some businesses have employee assistance programs or donate money each year. It would be amazing if they could donate cash that she can put towards bills or a rainy day fund as well as have a couple of gifts.

Medical bills are no fun and not just the money you owe, but the reason or reasons behind the bills. Those reasons may be still stressing them out or causing anxiety within the family. And they may still have doctors appointments that will continue to raise the amount owed. Christmas is the time to enjoy your family and have some fun. It can be hard to do that with those bills hanging over her head. I think it's awesome that you're thinking of your co-worker and I think she'll appreciate it. Quite frankly, just acknowledging how difficult it has been for them helps too.
