  1. One other thing -

I was just looking through the .pdf file ad from Walmart last year, and I was comparing the LCD tvs.

Today's ad had a Vizio 32" LCD HDTV for $597 - last BF, same (type) of TV was $598. I don't think they were the same brand though. Also, the Vizio 42" LCD HDTV in today's ad is $946, and on BF, the advertised 42" LCD TV was $988. I wonder if technology has just improved THAT much in less than a year, or if Vizio is a piece of cr@p.

We have purchased 2 Vizio's over the past 2 years and love them. We have not had any problems with them. I realize they are not top of the line but HDTV looks great on them. Absolutely great bang for the buck! :yup:

  2. My BX is making the Wii and PS3 a BF item (sorta). Their holding a lottery drawing on the 25th. None will be sold on 17 and 19 Nov.

The BX here at Tinker AFB is doing the same thing. They are taking names for a lottery drawing to be held next Saturday. You don't have to be present at the draw to win as they will call to notify if you win and you have 7 days to purchase the system.

  3. Ladies and germs :tongue1:, without further ado, I give you ...

    the BF 2006 Desktop Chart!

Lemme know what y'all think of the format for all the information. I'm tryin' to squeeze everything so it all fits on your screens. So 'ya know, anything left blank equals unknown information or info I couldn't find. Usually I get the detailed info from the manufacturer's website, but certain info sometimes isn't available. So far the chart only has the computer from the OfficeMax ad, but soon as more ads show up I'll update (I'll do my best to update it ASAP) and post here. I've also asked Brad to put up a link at the front of the thread so everyone has access to it.

    Enjoy!

    Stationchief,

Once again...outstanding work again this year.

I will definitely be using this chart for my purchase decision this year :eyepoppin

  4. Every brand has cheap models, you MUST go to the store and look at them side by side!!!!!

This is the only way to buy a tv.

Generally you will see a big difference between a $700 plasma/lcd and a $1500 model.

You get what you pay for with LCD/Plasma Tv's.

The cheap ones may look fine in store, check all the functions! Most stores will have the brightness maxed on cheap ones to make them look as bright as the higher priced models that go brighter. (No, this is not good on a tv, and it will not last near as long).

I did all that. I even changed all the settings on every model to what I liked. I even brought in my DVDs and asked the staff to hook up via HDMI to a DVD player similar to the one we have. Overall I found the difference between the Vizio and the higher priced models to be minimal. Some of the other cheaper models were noticably lacking but the Vizio was very good in all areas that concern my family and I. :yup:

Overall I don't think spending twice the amount is worth it when the differences between the expensive brands and the Vizio LCD we bought is minimal. :D

  5. Holy Moly - $41.00 for a carton of cigs?????

Here in Texas I pay $25.xx for a carton of Marlboros and I thought that was high. I also routinely get 4 - $4.00 or $3.00 off coupons every other month from Marlboro to use.

If you think cigarettes in the US are expensive take a look at this link! :eyepoppin

These prices are from 2004 and have gone up some more. :runaway:

Makes me glad I don't smoke so I can have more :gd_dollar to spend on the deals I find here at GD :D

  6. Welll, I figure with the way the RIAA has been going after places like Napster that they'd have found a way to block allofmp3.com or even go after them legally.

I've started using their VBR encoding at 192kbps max instead of the alt-preset extreme setting since they raised their prices a while back and even drop to VBR 160kbps for songs I download for my daughters (they're not quite the audio enthusiasts ;) )

Thanks for the information. I'll take a look at the site and see about buying an XROST pre-paid card.

  7. I got in line at 11:00 PM @ BB and there were already 50 people ahead of me. Of course there were only 10 laptops available. So then I went to Circuit City which had around 35 people in line but only 15 laptops. So we went to CompUSA then headed home.

Next year if you want a cheap laptop you might have to get in line 6-8PM, depending on your area. This year some GottaDeal'ers reported getting in line at 4AM, store opens at 5AM, by 6AM they're out the store with a brand new < $400 laptop.

11PM here in OKC. First guy was in line at 8:30PM :grandpa:
