  1. Find someone's hidden stash of doorbusters

Someone sleeping while waiting for family/friends who are shopping

Shopper with Christmas themed hair decorations

An act of kindness from one shopper to another (I love highlighting the positive)

And rianistar is right; this sounds like fun, but would be a lot easier to do as scavenger hunt than bingo :)

  2. I have used Kohl's discounts and Kohl's cash to buy a few clothing items and a bottle of perfume. When the Kroger in our town was closing and the new Kroger Marketplace was getting ready to open they had all their cosmetics, kitechenware, and a few other categories at 50% off (stuff they weren't moving to the new store I guess). I got a lot of good buys then for stocking stuffers and small "add on" gifts. I haven't made any big purchases yet.

  3. I still enjoy BF, but it's totally different now than it used to be. When my kids were younger I would always be on the hunt for the hot new toys for them and also be looking for gifts for in-laws, parents, etc. Now that there are so many of us we only buy for the kids. My kids are teens and quite frankly, we adults are all more "established" and don't need the household stuff like we used to (I don't need new bath towels every year!). Now I don't have to run from store to store because there are usually only a few items that I want to get.

One good thing is that now I can help out friends who want multiple items but can't get around to all the stores. I also get great enjoyment from shopping for angel tree kids, because I know that I am providing them with much more than I would be able to if I shopped at a different time. Getting good deals is a rush, but for me it never gets old, because there is also this joy from being part of the buzz/energy/excitement. Heck, the year I had surgery and didn't think it was safe to shop I still couldn't stay away. I parked myself at a table at Starbucks and people watched for a couple of hours, lol.

Hey! You stand in line and wait to pay for our stuff. I'll be right over there at Starbucks having a pumpkin spice latte!

I waited in line 7 hours to get these. Don't even think about asking me if I really need all four of them. I'm not giving them up for you or anyone else!

Trust me honey, someday it will be you spending money on your own kids, and you will realize why Black Friday is so awesome.

  5. We always do silly things. These have included temporary tattoos, fake mustaches, bandages that looked like bacon, post-it notes shaped like hands, and silly socks. We also do the lotto tickets, itunes cards, and candy typical stuff as well.

  6. I like the reusable grocery bag and drawstring bag ideas. I see you have pens already - can't go wrong with those. I have a pen I got from you a couple years ago that I still use. A couple people mentioned clipboards - how about the mini clip boards? Maybe pocket-size memo notebooks? For some reason I keep thinking I saw change purses/zip pouches before, but not sure. Those would be handy as well. I will miss the t-shirts, but GC could ease the sadness! :-)

  7. Target ultra is 4.5 quart capacity and 300 watts for power. The Artisan has a 5 quart capacity and runs on 325 watts.

One more difference - the Artisan comes with a pouring shield. The ultra does not. I will say that I use my Kitchen Aid almost daily (for over 8 years), and I have used the pouring shield exactly two times.

  8. I know nothing about this, but I am interested in the answer too. My husband and I were at my BIL's house last night and he has a speaker in the entertainment center right below his tv that really sounded impressive when we were watching a movie and when they were watching football. My husband made an off-hand comment that he would like to have one. Well, I don't even know what the darned thing is. I don't dare ask my BIL because he is a blabber mouth, and I would like to get my husband one as a surprise. Based on what I have looked at today, I am assuming this is a soundbar. Sound right? When I saw this thread titled "Center Speaker" I thought maybe I would find my answer, lol. Thanks for any help!

  9. I am getting excited too! I am going to be scrambling a bit in my prep this year - just found out our Angel Tree info won't be available until Tuesday! Eeek! I will have to strategize and calculate costs on all those gifts pretty quickly in order to get the biggest bang for our buck. I am up to the task. Bring on the doorbusters!!

  10. Earlier this year, a 16 year old rear ended me on the interstate doing 75mph during inclement weather and in a contruction zone of all things. He was zipping in and out of traffic and he was on his cell phone. Getting to his friends house was apparently all too important, and now his mother is being sued as a result. Good luck to you, I hope your child is more responsible.

Oh my gosh, that's awful! I hope he is too. I don't use my cell phone in the car and I have tried to explain to him over and over that it is a deadly game you play when you drive distracted. I know I was a teenager once and thought that bad things would never happen to me. He is a good kid, but it only takes one stupid mistake to alter a life forever. That is why I am doing anything I can think of to push him to make smart decisions. It's scary letting them grow up.

  11. Are the Aldi k-cups compatible for use in the 2.0? I know there are some k-cups that I really like at Kroger that are not. I have a 2.0 at home and an older one in my office, so now I only get to have my flavored off-brand k-cups at work.

  12. Ha!  Yeah, I saw them in so many ads and couldn't resist starting this thread.  I'm curious what people use them for; Uber totally makes sense, catching dumb stuff on camera to post to YouTube sounds like something people would do... :gdstooges: ...

As far as using it for your son, it would certainly deter him from making bad decisions, but also could be turned off, etc., such that it may not always serve its purpose.  Plus, you wouldn't want to go back and actually watch all of his footage every time he drives.

You're right; I don't want to go back and watch the footage every time he drives. Still, I think even having it there might deter some bad behaviors. it couldn't hurt. Last summer he and his buddies were sleeping half the day and then doing stupid stuff at my house while my husband and I were at work. I was tipped off by a concerned neighbor, and decided to take a couple hours off and drive all the way home one day to see what was going on around lunch time. After that one time coming home to check on them their habits improved immensely (as was confirmed by my wonderfully nosy neighbor who is retired and enjoys keeping tabs on the neighborhood kids - he really is good to have around). I am thinking the dash cam might help him stay mindful when he is driving. Kind of the same idea - if I watch the footage (in front of him) a few times, he will know that it is possible I could watch it at any time. At least for the first few months. The price is low enough that I am willing to get one and at least try.

  13. I am so glad I opened this thread! I didn't even know you could just go out and buy a dash cam. I have a son who will be getting his license in December, and I am so worried that he will use his cell phone while driving. Maybe if I put one of these in the car it would deter him. He is always a good driver now, but I am always in the car because he just has a permit. It is so scary to think about him getting hurt or making bad decisions when I am not around. I will look into these now. Is there a brand that is thought to be the best? Any special features I should look for? I am assuming they are on sale for BF somewhere, or this thread wouldn't be here. Off to check the ads!!

  14. The number one thing I was looking for a good deal on was a kitchen stove. I have recently learned that most places that sell appliances have them on sale for a week or two before BF. My oven has been on the fritz for over a month, and I bake a lot (almost daily). I decided to go all out - 5 burner range with double convection oven. The double oven would allow the teenagers to heat up their pizzas and such without interferring with my therapy, I mean baking, lol. Now for the last 4 days my darn oven has worked perfectly. It's hard to justify such an expensive purchase when the one I have is working fine. BUT - I am so scared that mine will work perfectly until the sales are over and then it will finally crap out. Decisions, decisions...
