  1. All DVD drives read CD's (so far as I know).

You'll want to look at the suggested system requirements of the games you like to play in order to be sure to get a laptop with enough video capability to play those games.  Pretty much any gaming these days, whether on a desktop or a laptop, requires a dedicated video card, so that it uses its own processor and own memory instead of sharing resources with the system proper.  This is sometimes referred to as a "discrete" video card on laptops.

And as a general rule, a "good" gaming laptop will cost several hundred dollars more than a "good" gaming desktop.  An "awesome" gaming laptop will likely cost more than $1000 more than a comparable gaming desktop.

That's what I was afraid of... expensive! I know my current one has not held up to my games.. even though the sales person said otherwise. Ha... This thing has been a piece of crap from almost the beginning. (Never had a laptop where the hinges started breaking 10 months in. Ugh..)

Several of the ones I've looked at online (Amazon) don't list a DVD drive. I thought maybe they were becoming obsolete. (I haven't paid any attention to laptops since I bought this one.)

Wonder if I can find a good laptop black Friday... we'll see. I have no space for desktop, if I did, I'd probably go that route since I have a laptop provided by my job to use there.

    Thanks for the advice!

  2. Add me to the list of those looking for a laptop on Black Friday.

I  need one good for gaming with a CD-Rom Drive. (*gasp*) I'm old school and all my games are on CD's. I do not have the extra money to replace them too...

I won't wait till Black Friday, if I can find a good enough deal before then. Everything I see online does not have a CD-Rom Drive... so I may be in trouble there..

  3. Here's the fine print from the ad.

"Unless noted otherwise, selection, prices, and promotions in this ad good through 11/30/13 in the USA only and may vary online."

So in theory, prices should be good through tomorrow.

Of course, they probably won't have the Nano I want by the time I can get there this afternoon, but perhaps Target will price match.

  4. I'm wondering the same thing. I wanted the iPod Nano for $99. Planned to have Walmart price match but the case was empty and no one could tell me where they were in the store. Anyone know how long the Best Buy ad is good?
  5. I got the free pony tail holders, and two free tubes of toothpaste after Register Rewards. Nothing else interested me. I wasn't impressed. I still have a ton of wrapping paper from previous years, so I didn't need that. I'm actually kind of glad they changed that price to 99 cents each though. The buy one get 2 free never worked right in our local stores anyway.

I was disappointing with this ad this year. Here's hoping their other ads from now to Christmas will be better. But frankly, Walgreens ads haven't been much good in quite awhile. So thankful we got a CVS = MUCH better deals!

  6. Sounds like most don't fit the computer correctly.

Am I just seeing the bad ones and most are OK? I need a new battery badly, don't even remember what

    a cordless laptop is like!

I read those reviews too and decided to take a chance. I too was at the point where I was having to constantly keep my laptop plugged in. There was no way I could afford $120 dollars through HP. It just wasn't happening.

I decided that even if it didn't work.. it was worth a chance.

Mine works very well and fits very well. It keeps a charge for about 3 hours. (Which is only a little less that what my original battery would keep a charge for when it was new.) I have a 17.1 inch large laptop, so batteries don't tend to last as long in it.

So to me, it was well worth it. Can't say you'll have the same experience, but I certainly hope you do. Just be sure to match the model and/or battery numbers and you should be ok.

  7. This past weekend I was able to use 2 coupons at Bath and Body in one transaction. It was the purple ones: one was $10 off 30, and the other was a free signature collection item (12.00 value) with a $15.00 purchase.

I did buy 3 get 3 free and was planning on just using my free signature collection item coupon, but the clerk also gave me the $10 off. She said that if the coupons were attached together (or it was obvious that they had been attached together at one time) they were letting customers use both.

I thought the only time they did this was black Friday, but I didn't complain one bit. In fact I thanked her several times! I got 7 full size bottles of shower gel, lotion, and bubble bath for about $29! Awesome! (Most of these were winter candy apple, my fav!)

Thought some of you might want to see if your local stores will do this!
