The optical zoom is the number to look at if zoom is important to you. The JVC has a 28x optical zoom, and the Canon has a 37x optical zoom, so the Canon wins with that. When you use the digital zoom, it enlarges the pixels and sacrifices picture quality. You can see the review of the Canon FS100 at the cnet review site. I am still trying to find a review of the JVC. My wife did purchase one from Walmart today, so I can let you know what I think of it after trying it out.
