  1. I'll probably kick myself as well, but I was looking for an investment.. Without knowing Best Buy's ad (nor the chances I'd have to actually get one on BF), I went ahead and bought the Sony KDL-40EX400 40" TV on sale for $100 off the normal price this week at BB. I could've gotten the Toshiba 40" for $400 today, but I wanted something that would last, and the picture looked a lot better with the Sony. Oh well.
  2. Wow, I'm loving this... too bad you guys aren't forced to hold off on the Best Buy ad so I could start prying away at whether my TV is in there... oh geez, I think I just gave you an idea. lol
  3. A couple good deals here.. Have been looking for a decently priced DECT 6.0 cordless phone set since we're stuck with a landline here, and a phone that's who knows how many years old at this point (practically brick-type). Mom's all-in-one printer broke down as well, so the HP Photosmart might be good...
  4. I check every hour or so just HOPING for the Target ad...been booing and hissing when an ad is posted that's NOT Target. :D

Same here in terms of Best Buy, since I'm trying to see whether the deal (and convenience of not doing BF camping) I'd get from buying a TV that's on sale this week would be better or worse than the BF ad will have... though it'd be nice if Target would have the same TV on sale so I could compare :P

  5. New idea... Anyone who's familiar with the Best Buy return policy able to help on this one (seems like it'd work from what I've read)?

I will go ahead and buy the TV on Saturday at the $599.99 price, along with the coupon giving me a $50 giftcard. The TV will sit unopened until the BF ad comes out. If I find a better price for that TV in the ad, I'll return the TV I bought before Thanksgiving (obviously within the 30 day period, and unopened). No restocking fee it seems for TVs, so I'll get the amount I paid back, and give back the giftcard. Then I'll pick it up on BF once again at the lower price.

Hopefully Best Buy will have my TV as a non-doorbuster item, so I could still have a chance at in-store pickup or just being able to drop by that afternoon or even Saturday (I know Sears has the TV for $550 on Friday AND Saturday, without the limited quantity/no raincheck warning) to pick it up. Thoughts, once again? :)

And thanks, emptynest2, I already considered the LED option, but that was out of my price range. :) The $600 is at the very edge of my range as well.

  6. As far as I know, Best Buy will try to sell me their Geek Squad 2 year protection plan (I even see it in the online shopping cart if I were to buy the TV that way). SquareTrade will also give you your money back if it cannot be repaired, but with the added benefit of (with 37"+ TVs) having a local repair tech come to your house to see if the TV can be fixed, vs. having to take it to Geek Squad to have it fixed. I'm not sure if the Geek Squad protection plan includes in-home service, but I highly doubt it. Having heard horror stories about Best Buy protection plans, I'd skip them.

Edit: At-home service through Best Buy's Geek Squad Black Tie Protection Plan is only available if they delivered and installed it. Also, they're rated much more poorly than SquareTrade by the BBB.

  7. With my Olevia (now out of business) TV, I purchased the warranty (not quite sure how long it was) from Target, and never had to use it. I likely won't buy my new HDTV from there, but if I had to choose between going with Target's extended warranty/replacement plans and, say, Best Buy's, I'd have to choose Target. SquareTrade, especially for new, over-37" HDTVs (in-house local TV repair services vs. having to ship them off like their plans for smaller TVs) is quite good, from what I've heard.
  8. I'm not one to bump an old thread, but I think this runs along with server load/lag/whatnot. I've noticed that since I've been browsing the forums (and rarely on the main GD BF site) that things are loading pretty slowly, occasionally getting a timeout/connection was reset error when I try to load a page. It's not my connection, as I'm having no other issues.
  9. As I mentioned in my post in the Best Buy BF forum, I'm looking at a 40" Sony (KDL-40EX400) at the moment. I also caught the (yet unreleased?) 40" Samsung, but I'm looking at trying to get the Sony instead because of the proven reviews for that actual product.

    Here's my situation:

I could skip all the BF craziness (which neither I nor family are that excited about) and pick up the Sony through Saturday at $600 from Best Buy, and use the $50 GC after $500 purchase coupon to knock it down essentially to $550 (same price Sears BF has it at), then perhaps price match if they were to do some LCD blowout sale prior to BF, at the risk of being unable to do so given the added value of the GC,

Or wait for the Best Buy ad (I'll give the leakers until Saturday, the end of the sale on all Best Buy TVs) and decide once again which way I should go for my TV buy on BF. I'm just not fond about having to camp out if the TV happens to be a doorbuster at Best Buy.

    Thoughts?

An added note: I've settled on an LCD as I've got a pretty well naturally-lit room for it, and I don't usually dim the lights that often. I've also seen the Sony first-hand at Sears (haven't been to Best Buy yet), and I really like it in comparison to a similar Samsung model.

  10. I'm anxiously waiting for the BF ad to be leaked sometime this week, since I'm looking at a Sony 40" (KDL-40EX400) that Sears will have for $550 on BF, but that Best Buy has at $600 right now (on sale, $100 off). I also have the $50 GC with $500 purchase coupon, which would split that difference. I just don't know whether their BF prices will dip below that $550 amount, nor if that TV will be featured in their LCD blowout I read about in the other "large TVs" thread. I'll have until Saturday to decide, when the weekly LCD sale ends. Is this about as good as the LCD blowout gets, or is/was there a greater discount the week prior to BF?
  11. I'm looking at the Garmin Forerunner 305. I know it dropped to $130 back in August for a short time, and I have exactly that much in BB giftcards/RZ certificates I need to use by December, so... I'm looking for it to drop around there (or lower), but right now it's $180 at BB and $148 at Amazon (who also had it at $130 the first week of October), so I'm waiting for both to name their price.
  12. Just got it.. Guess I was lucky in one sense. The apartment building was more of a private housing place, so they had a 24-hour staffed desk.. They would've seen the name difference and likely recognized that I didn't live there, and I would've been able to leave a note with them prior to its delivery anyway. At least I have it now.. now to find some cheap blu-rays, since nothing really appealed to me in any of the sales.
  13. The ship-to address has been changed, since they could now do that after the first attempt to deliver to a now non-existing apartment building. haha.. I'll get it tomorrow. :)
  14. Looks like it received an exception, meaning it couldn't be delivered. I e-mailed them to see if they could change the delivery address now, though I couldn't obviously obtain an InfoNotice number because:

    1. I'm not at home currently

    2. They couldn't leave the InfoNotice anywhere, considering the ship-to address is now a defunct building.

I'll call them when I get back... I want my Blu-Ray player! :P (Even if I found it cheaper during Amazon's black Monday sales... sigh)

  15. I'm assuming that was after the first attempt? It'll be "delivered" (to a non-functioning building) today, then I'll give UPS a call to see if they can change the address. It would save wasting a couple hours going to a UPS staffed center miles away by bus (yay for college towns and no car) to pick it up.
