  1. Ummm.. I don't know if its because I'm from New Orleans too, but the tree does not come down before January 6th. Technically, the Christmas season doesn't even begin until Christmas Day -- the period before that is Advent where we prepare for Christmas. Just sayin......
  2. OK -- I can't be the only one here who ordered something with a "guaranteed Christmas delivery", and come Christmas morning -- no package.

My worst online purchase award for 2005 goes to Lillian Vernon. On 12/12, I ordered 2 personalized lunch boxed from them, and 2 personalized jewelry boxes -- all in time for guaranteed delivery.

I received one lunch box on 12/20. On 12/22, I received the 2 jewelry boxes, but they weren't personalized. I called cs, and she said that she could send out personalization plates, but it would be 4-6 weeks. Wha? The only reason I ordered the jewelry boxes from LV was for the personalization. Also, they were supposed to be from Santa, so how was I going to explain that? Santa must have forgotten to personalize them, and mailed them? Complete PITA, and I paid for personalized boxes, darn it! She did offer me 10% off my order, and I refused. We settled on 20% off.

On 12/23 I called to ask about the other lunch box. The cs lady said she wasn't the post office, and had no idea. It never arrived. This was also problematic, b/c the lunch boxes were also from Santa -- which would make it hard to explain its sudden appearance 2 weeks after Christmas.

On 12/26, called cutomer service again. I was very polite, but I explained that LV goofed up 75% of my order, by either shipping an incorrect item, or not shipping it at all. She stared out by telling me that in fact, my name plates for the jewelry boxes weren't coming at all -- they had been discontinued and didn't the last cs rep mention it to me?

Then she offered me another 10% off since I never received the lunch box. I said what's the point of advertising "guaranteed Christmas delivery"? Besides, the LV said "guaranteed", not 10% off if not there in time. After being put on hold for awhile, she came back and agreed to credit my account for the price of the lunch box.

So on one hand, they did offer me some concessions, but truthfully, I rather would have have 100% of my order there and correct on Christmas morning.

Anyone else have a less than satisfactory shopping experience?

  3. I ordered something from Amazon.com on the 21st I think-- right at their deadline for guaranteed Christmas delivery. On the 22nd, I noticed my account said that it should arrive in January. So I called Amazon's customer service, and she concurred that it couldn't ship out for 2-4 weeks. I reminded her that it was guaranteed Christmas delivery. She said "Oh" and changed the shipping method to 2 day delivery free of charge.

I received my items the next day. Huh. What do you think would have happened if I hadn't have called them? Other than that, I haven't had any problems with them -- shipping has been super quick.

But I think I'll go start a thread about other sites that didn't fullfill their "Guaranteed Christmas Delivery" claims......

  4. Indiana Jones Full DVD Set rings up for $22.99 at CC. It seems it was a web special as well, but price back is up on their web site.

However, I just got back from my B&M CC, and it still rang up at the sale price. Good luck, (and a thank you to to Inspector Fox @ FW where I first saw the deal.)

  5. Hey -- I actually ordered one today from CC!:gd_orange When I tried to order one after this deal first posted, it wouldn't let me. I tried again today, and yeah! Free shipping and everything! Now to find some discounted Video Now discs.......
  6. Santa does not wrap presents in our house. I come from a family of 5 children, so Santa didn't wrap presents when I was growing up either. Makes things much, much easier. To all those parents that manage to wrap Santa and their presents, my hat goes off to you!

On Christmas morning, they wake up and run to see the Santa toys under the tree. Then they will open presents from grandparents etc.

They don't get presents from us --the parents --until Epiphany on January 6. We give our children presents then to commemmorate the visit of the 3 Wise Men. I really like it this way. I found that it extends the Christmas season to more than one day, it allows us to really focus on the story of His birth, it keeps the kids from present overload on Christmas Day -- And more selfishly, I discovered as an after fact that I can get better deals on things with after Christmas sales.

Anyway, we read the story of the visit, bless the House and open presents and eat King Cake. Its pretty nice and relaxed and a fun family tradition.

  7. Has any industrious Dealer looked into price matching Best Buy items at Walmart? Especially since BB BF items don't seem to need rebates, it seems like a good idea to try to get some of the deals at Walmart instead of trying to do both.

(Although I'm still optimistic about trying to get dh to stand in line for the BB emachine. Might depend on whether the Cowboys win or lose....:juggle: )
