  1. Not a fan of the change. What is next moving it to Tuesday? Thanksgiving is family time and not everyone is lucky enough to have family close enough where they can see each other often :(

I agree with others that this change may result in meaner and aggressive crowds.

I do my shopping online now and would not be braving the crowds if I was in the USA this year.

  2. Well my contacts/friends who were NOT going to go shop at midnight or earlier got to the stores around 6am or so and everything I wanted was gone and the stores were pretty much cleaned out. Looks like I am going to have get lucky for the lucky bags this year if I want a good deal on what I wanted :(

It looks like the midnight openings will be back next year though it could backfire as maybe those who had a bad time won't be back next year.???

    *or not *

  3. Not so sure we should be so quick to blame Wal-Mart.

Yes we should as Walmart seems to have ZERO policies or rules in place. It is like they get pleasure out of seeing the free for all and chaos. Putting palettes on the floor and letting people swarm around them is unsafe! Why no ticket system? Why let the 24 hours ones stay open all night? Shut them down for a few hours and put out the items. Last year they had no ropes or barricades to direct the flow of traffic

  4. Same here as Jay from FL made a few kids X-mas a little nicer with the toy ideas. That and the webcasts were a blast!

Although I was unable to get a lot of what I wanted for myself (ok nothing for myself) I got the gifts online for the kids/tsunami victims

  5. A family friend recently went to China with his 10 year old daughter and the natives were constantly stopping her to take pics and touch her. I was told at first she thought it was funny, then became annoyed by it, then by the end of their 2 week visit she was used to it and took it in stride. She is neither blonde nor red headed, just Caucasian and cute.

*nods head* Yea when I travel in rural areas here I get the touching and pics taken. I get a lot of stares as well. I am used to it by now.

  6. The 1st Lucky Bag deal was leaked on the weekend. I noticed Bic Camera had an ad in store about the doorbuster (my word not theirs). From what I could read you had a chance at some pricey vacation, some laptop (I think?), some odd winter face warming thing, a 5000 yen ($50) gift card and something else I can not recall. I am sure I am leaving a lot out as my kanji skills are awful :(

My guess is the bag will go for well over $50/5000 yen.

  7. That was the best webcast ever. Big Jim needs to get more cute women to interview. I wanted to see the babe who took her picture with Big Jim.

Though the look on the one womens face was priceless as her husband was chatting with Big Jim. Oh and he should have asked the passerbys why all the TV buying? (I was right 12 people total asked!) I also want to know what happened with the police cars across the street.

    This is must see TV/webcast!

  8. My take is it will eventually no longer be Black Friday but get pushed back to Midnight on Thursday. I do not like the idea based on it ruins the holiday (yes people can have it on Saturday but that's assuming everyones schedules are the same). I think the workers in retail should get that day off with family and not be stuck working at midnight.

The system was not broke so why fix it?

"I feel terrible because it impacts, it'll change some Thanksgiving plans for some of our employees,"

the Best Buy CEO meant to say I get more profit and to hell with the employees.

Whats next..moving Thanksgiving Dinner to another day, so the family can be together. Then greed and retail has won and Family has lost.

    *nods head in agreement*

  9. I would suggest the Kindle 3G in your case Johnny. The 3G is free and global, and the Kindle is great. It's not color though, if that makes a difference. It's $139 right now, or the Kindle Touch 3G is $149 (Just looked at Amazon jp and it's ¥ 21,299. Currency converter says that's 273USD!!!! Ack!)

If the 3G can be used overseas to download books thats great. Also I was thinking is this Kindle Fire one better?

yup the price is way high here (odd as tech is mostly cheap) for it so higher price plus Japanese language makes it less appealing here for me.

  10. That being said, I'd almost rather get the camera in Japan, I think they have cooler stuff.

If the price is not much difference I might do that. I can handle the instructions being in Japanese maybe.. My TV I scored on Lucky Bag day I still can't figure out how to remove the blinking email icon when I turn on the TV. LOL

Is the camera on my link above a good one?

  11. My two yen:

    - easy to call in or Skype and get a question answered. Please put the Skype address under the phone # on the intro info

    - Chat does move fast but I have asked a question on chat and another GDer answered it for me. I agree that mods should copy a good question and re-ask it if not answered.

    - A theme song LOL

    - the tent info and when to start standing inline (tips) are great. I would also add what to expect when the doors open I am sure there are new BFers here and my first time on BF I was woefully unprepared. Even a simple tip like having walkie talkies if you are with friends or how to make a good gameplan on BF.

    - When looking at the ads please give us a minute to get the ad so we can follow along. With the Target ad I was scrambling to open the ad and by the time I did you were on page 3. Yes I am slow.. :(

    - Add a poll to the page. I know some chats can add polls. I would love to see a question asked like (where are you shopping 1st this year) and being able to click on the poll and getting the results.

That's all for now I can think of

  12. Did a search and found this:

    http://www.easports.com/seasonticket

Looks like you acess it through xbox live or Playstation network

What is EA SPORTS Season Ticket?

EA SPORTS Season Ticket is an all-new program that offers subscribers full digital access to five EA SPORTS games three days before launch, 20% discount on downloadable content, free premium web content and membership recognition displayed in-game and online. EA SPORTS Season Ticket has a one-time cost of $24.99 or 2000 MS Points for 12 months. EA SPORTS Season Ticket creates a better gaming experience for our consumers and benefits the EA SPORTS fan who wants to play early, play more and play better.

Ah much thanks. Not really worth it then I think

If he plays baseball games, the PS3 might be better for him just because of MLB The Show, the clearly superior baseball game this generation, exclusive to Playstation (since it's made by Sony).

I agree as you can also play the Japanese Baseball game (Pro Yakuu SPirits) on the PS3 which is far superior than MLB the Show IMO.

  13. Johnny, what size camera do you want? Point and shoot? DSLR? Inbetween?

Do you want to take HD video?

Do you need a lot of zoom?

    What is your price target?

    - A camera that is your standard size nothing large. Not sure what point and shoot is. :(

    - No my cell phone takes HD video so no need for HD video but not opposed to getting one with HD video.

    - Zoom just standard is Ok

    - Price range? Well a good camera here in Japan runs me about 7900 yen.

I was unsure if I can get a better deal on BF (also the yen is stronger ) and if so what is a good one to get.
