  1. I've been doing this online for several years and in stores since it started. All across several stores online tonight, this site and forum is the only place that is working smoothly. Kohls was a mess. but Best Buy is the very worst I have ever seen it. Maybe the epic crash of 2014 was close.

  2. You are wise to proceed cautiously here... They tried to wriggle out of the plsain language on me two years ago when I bought a doorbuster Blu-ray player a couple days ahead. Fortunately, I got a business card from employee and he wrote on it, so when I went back during the doorbuster time frame--which they require by the way--and got some flak, I had this. They may have tweaked their policy a little in the meantime, but I'm not sure.
  3. This is an exceptional deal I think. The picture quality is amazing. As for the energy usage issue, plasmas have come light years since 2007 in that area and most of the new ones are Energy Star rated. Consumer Reports recommends this model and they say its energy cost is $42 a year, comparable to many LCD panels of similar screen size.
  4. Here is the Price Match Policy for Sears.

Good info, but beware. Last year, I grabbed a Sony Blu-ray ahead of time because I planned to be other places early on BF and figured the player was going to sell out fast. Anyway, I had the BF ad with me and explicitly asked the salesman if I could come back on BF and price-adjust. He said no problem. Well, it was a huge problem and the electronics manager nixed it when I went in, saying the policy printed on Sears.com was for their website, which she said was a different entity. I quietly walked across the store and found a salesman in the tool section that I knew and he did it. Bottom line, beware and proceed cautiously. I was pretty hot the way it went down.

  5. similar but slightly different question? Anyone know where to get a good deal on the wall mounts? I currently have a 32 inch lcd and the mount will hold up to 42 I think but depending on price would go larger if I could find a reasonably priced mount. My current mount has full range of motion and I'd like something similar.

Monoprice.com is your best friend for wall mounts. For my new Sammy, I got one for $23.

  6. It was one of those dumb luck deals. I was in store getting a new cell phone and the line was long, so I wandered back into the tv section to see what they had for a bedroom setup, which I was casually shopping for.

I was intrigued by a low-end Samsung that was on sale the week previous for $450, but back at regular price then. Long story short, the employee walked me back to a clearance deal and the A550 was marked down to $399.99 from $949.99. Needless to say I asked, "How many do you have?!"

It was one of those lucky deals that I usually miss out on and in the vernacular, YMMV. ;)

  7. I've gotten 2 emails from Sears saying the will not price match or price adjust for Black Friday and called my local store and got the same response

Their website says otherwise, BTW. I don't know if it's a change since you inquired, or not.

I picked up a Sony Blu-ray player there last night at the VIP sale. After being reassured by three customer service reps that all I needed to do was call in during the promotion timeframe, I felt comfortable going ahead.

I did get a card from one of them, just in case. Upon getting home, I was still a little nervous and I checked their site. They have a detailed price policy and it does cover this. So, I opened up the player and am enjoying it's $180 goodness right now. ;)

I was glad to see that Sears was very busy last night and doing good business. I think that's good for the store and the economy.

  8. Well, I pulled the trigger and did my TV buy early. I thought Sears had a very fair deal going with the combined "Ultimate Football" rebate promotion and the upcoming "Friends & Family" 5% off promotion. Problem is, I didn't want to put it on a Sears card.

So, I went to a local store with an excellent reputation and asked them to price match Sears. They did one better and not only beat the Sears' price, but also threw in a wall mount. So, I now have a stunning Panasonic TH-50PX75U and wall mount, out the door for $1251. And got an extra year added onto the warranty. Needless to say, this local merchant gets my next big purchase as well. :yup:

I think I did pretty well. Good luck to all of you in your search. Now, I await some good HD-DVD deals for the new Panny!

    :2woot:

  9. I'd be skeptical of any RCA tv. They are one of the most returned brands.

    Maybe the new ones are....

I'm picking up a new flat screen to replace my dying RCA. After 19 years of service, its tube is showing its age, finally.

19 years. People knew how to make a TV back then! Thems were the good old days. :grandpa:

    ;)
