  1. I bought the 42" Emerson Plasma on BF and love it! I was planning on buying the extended warranty, but when I was at checkout they said it was $79 for a 2 year extended warranty. I didn't buy it because they said I could add it later and I thought I remembered people saying it was a lot cheaper than that.

I see on Walmarts website that they sell the extended warranties, but I'm not sure how it works. Can I just purchase the 3 yr warranty on walmart.com and add it to my TV? How is this done. They have a 3 yr for sale online for only $44. I just want to make sure I'm doing this right before I do it.

  2. I just called my Walmart and they said that they are aware that many are opening at Midnight, but they are not opening until 5:00. She said they are going to be letting in 20-25 people at a time. So I guess it'll be waiting outside again for me! This could be a huge advantage if I can get in on the first group, and get to my TV quickly, then move on to smaller things like DVDs. This is Simi Valley, CA.
  3. Emerson doesn't make 42" Tv's or Plasma TV's. Here is the only thing I've been able to find that even has an idea or opinion on this TV, who knows if this guy has a clue, but at least he's trying to figure it out.

Anyone have any thoughts on what this is actually is? I really wanted a 42" Plasma this year for under $500 and this seems to be my only option...but this TV makes me a little nervous.

I can't imagine Funai, the company that makes Emerson, making a new TV just for Walmart's BF sale. It's got to be made by someone else...the question is, who?

  4. I think the way they are doing things is a bummer for people that want more than one thing. But from their standpoint, it's the best thing. They will get tons of people in the doors by having a great ad, they (hopefully) will avoid the chaos, and they will still completely sell out of everything that is in high demand.

In fact it wouldn't surprise me if they actually do more sales because people that brought money for 2 or 3 doorbusters will only get 1, and will have the extra money burning a whole in their pocket. It stinks for us, but is good for them.

  5. The best advice I can give you is to NOT base your purchase on people talking on a forum. What looks good to me is probably different than what looks good to you. I have had my Sammy 50" plasma professionally calibrated and I tweaked it from there. Im an avid member of AVS forum. A lot of this talk "blacker blacks", brightness, etc. is very subjective.

Do some research on the tv's you are interested in, CNet is a good source for what I would consider unbiased info. The easiest thing you can do is go into your local retailer and compare the tv's side by side and buy what you like and looks good to you.

The last thing you want to do is buy something based on what someone recommended in a post on GD and then be unhappy.....

I second this. But I would not go to Target, Walmart or Costco or a similar retailer to do your comparisons. They don't usually worry about calibrating the sets, many of them just plug em in and go, meaning the best TV may not look as good as one next to it that's not as good. I would go to a high end TV store and do comparisons to decide what kind you like best. That way you'll get a better feel for what they look like when they are set up correctly. I don't know how many times I've been to Walmart and seen an amazing TV getting bashed by customers as they look because it's a little blurry, when it's obviously not set up correctly.

  6. I too prefer Plasma over LCD by far. The black level is WAY better on a Plasma and I just like the look of them much better. The biggest drawback for me is the power they take up, but I'll put up with that for a TV that I like better. I currently have a 50" in the living room and am planning on getting the 42" plasma at Walmart on BF...unless Amazon has a equal deal before that. There are other things I'd like to get on BF if I don't have to be standing in the line.
