  1. This year snuck up on me. Usually, I'm already thinking about BF over the summer. This year I saw a gotta deal post on FB about a week ago and went "really?" Now, I'm making up for the last few months by getting antsy earlier than normal (usually it's just a gradual build of anticipation). I about hit the floor when I saw a post on another site about there being only 10 more Fridays before Christmas. Where, oh where did the time go this year?
  2. I was thinking about this a couple weeks ago. I've been trying to decide if I want to chance it (my card was replaced 4 times this year due to the bank suspecting breaches), use cash, or pre-buy gift cards for the items I want to purchase. The only issue with the gift cards is what if the store doesn't have it and I need to get elsewhere? I'm not a fan of visa/AE gift cards because they charge fees.
  3. I'll admit there was a time in my life when I would've considered it but never did. I have been guilty of being in line very early and shopping through the night before when stores open on thanksgiving or at midnight. However, at this point in my life my time is just too valuable to spend camping out for days on end. Nothing is that good of a deal to me. I will however continue to get there early and shop at all hours :)
  4. I'm beginning to wonder if the stores will get to where they don't close at all. Doesn't affect us much though. Hubby always has to work Thanksgiving so we don't really do anything special on the exact day anyway. Last year was a bummer because I got really sick. Tried to do it anyway but only went to Walmart. Luckily, my brother was with me so he was able to hold my place in line all the times I had to go throw up. Finally gave up after getting the main item there.
  5. I have 2 boys, ages 3 and 2....and have never, nor will I ever take them with me on BF. Even if I had no sitter (which sometimes with the holidays, it can be a bit chaotic finding someone), I would still not take them with me. I'd shop online.

My boys are a nightmare shopping. On a regular day. That panicked mom you see?...is usually me. Being that I have one child IN the cart trying to stand up or climb, etc....it's a common occurance that my 3 year old takes advantage of that and takes off down an isle. There is NO way I would subject them to the crowds and chaos on BF. Unless of course I could somehow leash them inside the cart. But even then, I wouldn't have room for my doorbusters. LOL.

But on a serious note, I see a lot of comments in regards to BF being the only day to truly get rock-bottom prices on necessities/toys to be able to give their children a Christmas at all. My advice? Clearance shopping! My children are almost done as far as Christmas goes thanks to Old Navy's, Children's Place, and Target's after Christmas clearances last year. In fact the majority of the items I got...were far less than even the best of BF prices!

Anyways, my step-daughter is 10 this year. I may consider taking her with me in the next couple years just because I know she would love it and I think she's about to the age where she can handle it. Okay done rambling. lol..

I think 10 is a good age. My stepdaughter is now 15. She's been going BF shopping with me since she was 11 and loves it! Have to say it's been helpful to have the extra body and set of hands at times too! However, it gets kind of sticky when I'm trying to pick items up for her. I usually send her on a wild goose chase while I get the item hidden in my cart and again when I'm close to the register. Definitely would not have taken her when she was too much younger. It would've been too much of a hassle or distraction.

  6. I think one of my most memorable black fridays was the first one that I got my husband (boyfriend then) to join me. We flew 2800 miles to visit my family (his 1st time meeting them) for Thanksgiving and I drug him, my mom and brother out the next morning. He originally thought I was nuts. However, after the day was over, he was hooked! Now 8 years later he gets just as excited as I do!!
