  3. I am a nurse and I work night shift 7p-7a. I have to work on Christmas Eve this year to fulfill my holiday commitment. :cry2: It's my most favorite time to spend with my family, and most of our traditions are carried out on Christmas eve. I'll have to leave by 6:15 pm to go to work. I have been looking for someone to switch with but so far, no luck. :(

Anyone else have to work over the holiday?

there is still time, maybe you will find someone

as for family traditions my aunt us to work that shift and she would just move the days around so the Christmas eve was DEC. 25th and Christmas the 26th so she could enjoy it with her kids

Not in my current job, worked retail for many years, as we lost the idea of closing for holidays I was home less and less. ONe of the reasons I found a new job. My brother was with the sherriff's dept for more than 15 years. Being single he often worked over into part of the am shift so another parent could be home at least part of the day with their families so I do understand the feelings of missing out. He never got to our house when the food was still hot and he missed his nephews opening presents etc until he retired.

that was very nice of him
  4. question???? you said all 3 of her kids are grown? are they going to be doing Christmas? What about the one that actually is going through the stress of getting married?

well may be you could send her an email saying you know how very hard and stressful the next few months will be on her. Express your concern about her missing all of the fun of the holidays. may be suggest you two get a massage and go shopping together or something. i think the crap she is pulling is bs

  5. Christmas eve every year is spent at my hubbys grandmothers with about 50 people. We in the past have tried to buy something small for almost every person there, yet not everyone there gives gifts. I suggested to my hubby that we just buy for the kids this year and of course his mom and grandparents but that we didnt need to give gifts to every adult there and he said he would feel funny doing that. Im not sure why he would feel funny but wanted to know if anyone else has a situation where there is a large number of people and how do you decide who to buy for?

i think your idea is great, i don't know what his problem is.

well how about calling everyone and suggesting a secret Santa, where you each buy for one person or family i know you said some do not buy but the might get into the idea
