  1. Actually my worst was not only my first but it was also my best. My first time was in college, my lady friend coworker talked about Black Friday like it was her Super Bowl, it got me very excited about the deals and good stuff I would get. I needed a digital camera badly and there was one on sale. She was going to put me up an hour before the sale. The time comes, and she is nowhere to be found. I called her, she didn't answer. I was crushed, she ditched me. My mom who was the awesome woman she is, got out of her bed, put on some clothes and took me to Walmart to shop and then the rest is history. She is a trooper and we haven't missed a year since. I have yet to find another partner who can help me than her.

  2. I finally got my map up but it wont tell me where everything is, which is sadly typical for my walmart. Even if we get maps stuff is never in the right spot. For instance, two years in a row, games/DVDs and toys were in the same place, imagine how horrible that is, lol. like corn in a grindstone. I will be working even harder this year!

  3. My local Walmart maps have been wrong for 2 years straight. They always put the movies/games right next to the toys and it is a slog every year to get either. I will just check the maps like every year and hope they actually do pay attention to them.

  4. My plan is check out Amazon and Newegg throughout the week for movie and game deals. Then on Thanksgiving, no cooking, just enjoy the Macy's Day Parade and do final checks with my mom and the little lady squad (my nickname for them). Eat, visit some family until 5 then where everyone be either at Walmart or en route. We take our places and wait for the big dance. My list is a Nintendo 2DS with Animal Crossing New Leaf (that's my main want). My mom is going for the stainless steel trash can for 15. Plus, I will grab my usual consignment of games and DVDs as usual and tack in a bluray or two. I might see if I can get a copy of BIg Bang Theroy for 8 bucks from Best Buy online like I did last year but if not, 10 bucks aint bad. 8pm stuff doesn't really appeal to me unless there is a last minute change. I am expect a $300 payout but things do happen. Then, I will be home around 10pm and then back at it around 9 for vulture duty and other sales.

  5. My mom and I would eat, visit family and go over the final plans and then go to bed only to wake up in a few hours then shop, grab some Mickey ds on the way home and talk about how much fun we had. Last year we had to throw that out the window. it was new but we had to adapt to the hours for the love of the day. now we will make a new traditions and I can't wait for the day.
  6. BIG!!! Thanks for the help you all have given me and the family with BF ads and the community is just awesome. I hope you will always be here for many years to come.
  7. I plan on pick all my Thursday night shopping in Walmart because well, that is the only good shopping since our Sears closed down. I have helpers this year which is awesome because I can cover more ground. I will have all my helpers carry each others lists so we can shop more effectively. Cast a wide net through the store and if something we need, we pick it up and hold it for the other person. Then divide and check out. I hope to get the usual (games, DVDs, PJs) but maybe get a new vacuum and a steam mop for the kitchen. Also a few toys for my godkids and baby cousins (knock on wood). if I have some energy, I will go back and hit staples for a streaming box or pick one up at Walmart. Maybe Roku or Boxxee. Thats my plan
  8. I will take this with a grain of salt. I will wait till Walmart posts the times on the ad. If this does happen, I will be sad but I will roll with it like always. Just make sure I have dinner done before Thanksgiving day. I am a fighter and roll with the punches, BOOM!!
  9. Where do the eBay resellers fit in these groups?

I totally forgot about them. You can spot them when they have alot of one thing.

Hmm, interesting. So I always get there super early, list and ads in hand but I'm always alone because no one else will go with me. Does that make me a die hard or a newbie? :g_think:

You are not either, you are just plain awesome:). Wear that as a badge of honor

  10. I been doing this for nearly 8 years (2 years as a Gotta Deal person). I have seen it all, and been apart of it all. Early morning hours or late night, I seen pretty much what BF has to offer (and I still get surprised). I have been able to boil down a few types of BF shopper. I thought I would share a few and hope that you would do the same.

Type #1 - Diehards: Always early and with others in tow. They always have all the information they need (i.e. maps, shopping lists, ads). They always have a plan. These are my people. I know when I see them, I feel stay because they play by the rules of the game. They will sometime even give you a hand when you need it. Always willing to help the newbies (more on that later) with advice on the fly.

Type #2 - Man/Woman off the street or Lookyloos: These were more present last year than previous because of the early start times. These people aren't all bad but they can be if there are alot of them. They don't have a plan, or understand what is even going on. They waltz in and usually stick out like a sore thumb. Standing around main areas, blocking aisles, casually looking at items. Generally being in the way. Also, become very testy with things run out (as how it is because $2 DVDs don't sit for long).

Type #3 - Vultures: These are the type who wait until the sale is about 20 or 30 minutes from over. They scavenge through aisle looking for deals people left in aisles or at checkout counters. Not bad people, just a bit lazy tho.

Type #4 - Bullies/Rogues: Always nasty and the reason why we have police at BF sales. They will steal from carts and sometimes even out of your hands (never happened to me but it could). They will fight people over the most miniscule of items. My life is worth more than a 3 dollar waffle maker. They are always loud and must be avoided.

Type #5 - Bad Parents - I'm not talking about the ones who bring kids like 6-12, I am talking about 0-3. BF sales are chaotic events, if you don't have a baby sitter, stay at home and do the online sales.

Type #6 - Newbies - Not bad like the Lookyloos but they can be. They have a plan but they are usually nervous or make rookie mistakes (like leaving carts unattended). They are usually alone and are quickly overwhelmed by people. Also one the reasons why EMTs are also at BF sales (the others are Type 4 and 5)

Well there you have it. If I think of more I will add them. Please share if you like.

  11. Someone knocked someone's baby out of their arms. I felt bad for the child because there ignorant and selfish parents brought them out in the dead of night and cold to buy stuff. I wanted to post this in "Kids on Black Friday" thread as a con point. After that, it was pretty much crazy as it was. I was up all night at WM, didn't go anywhere else until 8am, hit Staples and then back home to bed. One thing, I noticed was a lot of people off the street and the eBay folk (you know who I am talking about!!). I hang out with the diehards (like the Gotta Deal folks, lol).
  12. Thank you Brad, Big Jim and all those who put in the time and effort to make the madness a little bit easier for everyone to get thru. You do everything but do the shopping for us, lol. With that I want to say again, thank you. I like this community and will try to be more a part of it.
