  2. Some great ideas here love this thread!

    Swedish Princess Cake- Princesstårta

    A RECIPE FOR THE TIME-CHALLENGED:

    Purchase:

1 plain vanilla or sponge cake

    1 jar raspberry jam

    1 pint thick whipping cream

    8 ounces almond paste

    confectioners sugar

    food colouring

    an egg

Mix together 8-ounce can almond paste, 1/2 cup confectioners' sugar, 3 drops of green food coloring, and 1 tablespoon egg white. Chill for an hour. Slice a plain, unfrosted vanilla cake or sponge cake into three layers.

Spread the bottom two layers with a little raspberry jam, then with whipped cream. Spread the remaining whipped cream over the top and sides. Roll out the almond paste between two sheets of waxed paper until it is thin and

large enough to cover the top and sides of the cake in one piece. You could measure the height of the cake and multiply that by two, then add the width of the cake and you will know how big it needs to be. Take off one sheet of paper and carefully lift the marzipan and put it over the cake with the paper side up. Once you have adjusted it so the cake is completely covered remove the second sheet of paper and trim any excess marzipan from around

the bottom of the cake. Last of all sift a fine dusting of powdered sugar over the top of the cake.

  3. This is one of my favorite ham recipes:

    Rootbeer glazed ham

    Ingredients

1 (4 lb) cured smoked ham

    1/2 teaspoon dry mustard

    3/4 cup dark brown sugar

24 ounces barq root beer (two cans)

1 1/2 tablespoons tabasco caribbean style steak sauce

    6 cloves

    1 cinnamon stick

1/2 orange, juice and zest of

    1/2 lemon, rind of

    Directions

1 Preheat oven to 350 degrees.

2 Place the ham in a broiling pan and cut shallow gashes in a criss-cross pattern across the top half.

3 Combine the brown sugar and the dry mustard and pat it all over the ham.

4 Put the ham in the oven.

5 Combine all the other ingredients in a saucepan.

6 Bring the mixture to a boil, then lower to a simmer, and cook until the liquid volumne is reduced to about one cup.

    7 Strain.

8 Spoon some of the glaze over the top of the ham.

9 Spoon more glaze, at 15-minute intervals, until it is all gone.

10 Continue baking until the ham reaches an internal temperature of 160-degrees on a meat thermometer.

11 Remove from oven and allow to rest for about one hour before carving.

Thanks I will give this a try!

  6. Every ham I have ever purchased has had directions on the ham. Some come with a packet of glaze that you add near the end of the heating process.

Is yours from a butcher thus it doesn't have any glaze packet with it?

This is one that my IL's had from a pig they butchered...YUCk I know. All I know about it is that it has been smoked??
  7. Okay this is the first time I have EVER made a ham...I know sad. I am having all the IL's over Saturday for our Christmas party and I am making a ham and turkey. So I am thinking of making them both in rosters to free up the over for other stuff.

Anyone want to share how or what the put in their hams when making them....brown sugar, beer is all I have heard so far???

  8. I got mine too...last year it was so funny I got like 8 of these in the mail...all in other peoples names and the addresses were not even close to me??? I live in a very small old mining town there are only like 5 houses there so not sure how that happned...anyway I spent them all. This year I only got 2.
  9. I'm pretty sure the Wal-Mart Hp printer is the same one I have. I got mine at target for $30 or so. It's going to be a discontinued model, that's why it's so cheap. Mine works fine, but I did have to buy a cable for it.

Yeah I heard somehwere that this was being discontinued...so I am wondering about the ink for them do you think they will still make the ink or are they pretty universal for the Hp's?

I guess I am just going to pick it up I mean come on for under 30 bucks what can you expect.

  10. Most blitz items are not on the floor. However, if you want to match prices with other stores (movies, music, etc) I recommend stashing it in a furniture display.

Never thought of that you could set them up on a display TV stand and people may not even notice them just think it is part pf the display...lol I may try that.
  11. I am not sure they will be there Friday. I think because they have so many people working in each dept. that someone will find them. Maybe if this was Wednesday night you may have a chance but I think it is to early...someone will be fluffing the sheets...:yup:
  12. Yikees just looked and in DuBois, PA it is supposed to be like 35 and snowing. :fluffy:Well it is supposed to be cold and snowing all week...so I bet by Friday we will have like 6 inches...I wish I lived in the south!! :)
  13. My hubby got me a new comp for our anniversary and my old scanner wasn't compatible with it. I didn't realize just how much I used my scanner till I didn't have one:(

Anyhow I saw the $29 all in one printer listed and was thinking about getting it but I'm not sure. It will only be used for scanning school papers and printing out homework etc. Any advice?

Oh and also, on the 5 qt crockpot for $15, does anyone know if the bowl part of it is removable? It looks like it is but it's hard to tell in the pic.

    Thanks:)

I saw that I am looking for a new scanner for my dad for Christmas...I was wondering if I should try this one or the other HP they have for 45.00. Anyone know if I should spend the extra 20.00?
  14. I have been ordering online from them. They have great deals on certain days when you can get 30% off clearence prices. I got my daughter hoodies for 10.00, jeans for 11.00, and tee-shirts for 5.00.
  15. Anyone know anything about either of them?

I know some area's don't have the Bon-Ton, but it's a huge anchor store in a lot of malls......it rivals JC Pennies, that sort of store.

And Big Lots???? No word on them?

    TIA:fluffy:

Big Lots thankgiving day sale is posted on their website...not much there but is there ever...just a 1 page flyer!
