  1. And that was the other idea they had.....if we did not do Secret Santa, then we would pick names and get a list of three items that person would want. If some one tells you want they want, where is the fun and element of surprise?
  2. We had a pollyana (sp?) at work today with an app. $20 amount. I gave a Burt Bees gift pack, found through this site (a good gift, I thought). Almost everyone else gave gift cards! Is that what is done now, just exchanging gifts cards? Am I missing something? Has anyone else found this??
  3. Growing up, my parents did not wrap anything. Also, we celebrated on Christmas Eve, not the day (German background). I always wanted the surprise of unwrapping, so I always wrap everything for my children (except for large items like bikes, etc). Oh, and we wait till Christmas morning.
  4. Arrived at Walmart at 4:00. Inside, a circular and map were given. Anything X'ed of on the map meant it was sold out. (That meant almost all the items.) No one could check out till 5:00. That created a mob scene, with everyone piling up around the registers, no structure to the check out, just a free-for-all! It was bad. One man, who bought the 32" TV told me he had been there since 10:00 the night before. Another since 1:00. It was too crazy. I will not be back.
  5. I know a couple of people mentioned that it was 90% on Jan 1 last year, but I did not find anyone had actually reported that in the discussion from last year. The first report of it actually being 90% last year was on 1/4. Interestingly, in last year's thread, some people also reported that the year previously it had been 90% on the 1st, but someone else pointed out that according to the 2007 thread it had not gone 90% until the 3rd, at least based on what was reported here on the site.

Last year, my sister and I were at the Voorhees, NJ store on Jan. 1st and it was 90% off. That was the only store I went to on that day so, I don't know about other stores. I will say, at 90% off, I buy things I would never otherwise buy!! (But it makes makes me happy and it's cheap happiness!)

  6. I went to Target today. I was disappointed that the Christmas clearance was not 90% off, as last year, on Jan. 1., it was. I went to the Marlton, NJ store. There were aisles of stuff there. Then I went to the Voorhees store, hoping it was 90%, but no such luck. Both stores were still 75%. Very little Christmas items left there. I did get a Rival 18 qt. electric roaster pan marked down from $40.00 to $10.00. (Not that I needed one.) The clerk said they had overstocked them. I'm going back tomorrow to see if 90% clearance has come. Last year, it was already 90%.
