If they're concerned their people will get hurt, each store could hire a couple of security guards (perhaps one armed and one not) to police the crowd. Perhaps even a couple of off duty cops. Even at $100/hr total for both, it would be only $1500 to have them stationed there from 3pm until 6am on BF. Not only would that help in keeping the line in order (handing out numbers, keeping out crashers, etc) but it would be a hell of a good PR move to ensure the safety of the shoppers, Some of which probably have some serious cash on them.
