  1. Hello! I tried to search for the song you mentioned, and sadly, did not find it. But I found a group of singers called "Riders in the Sky", and thought I'd mention it in case they may have been the ones who sang it. Good luck, I hope you figure it out!   :gd_dj:

  2. So sorry to hear about your friend. Your parents are lucky to have a son who takes care of them. I am praying for you and your family. I hope you have a safe and happy thanksgiving and that you enjoy this precious time with your family!

:gdiagree:   You will be missed, but you should definitely enjoy the holidays with your family. Take care.

  3. Well I am no huge fan of Walmart's check-out lines, but I'm at least willing to give them a chance and see if things improve for the holiday season. The story does mention cutting prices at the beginning, so while they weren't specific, they didn't leave it out completely.

I know I'm going against the grain here, but I'm keeping a positive outlook on this. :holiday13

Plus, I think the candy canes are a cute idea to try to get people in the holiday spirit. I give kudos to Wal-mart for trying, but I'll be even more glad to see if they follow through with their ideas. :gd_twocen

  4. Lots of good ideas already.  The Dollar Tree is one of my favorite places for stocking stuffers. They have keychain flashlights, phone accessories (one of the newer items is a cell phone holder that attaches to the vent), candles, incense, makeup (including makeup brushes), lots of nifty items.

I think they have a 10% off customer appreciation coupon, that is good for today as well.

  5. It says the gift card is to the first 21 and to shop early Friday.  Will they be given out 7:00am Friday, or earlier friday as part of their Thursday 4pm to 2am thing?

I'm thinking they will be giving out the gift cards at the 7am Friday opening time.

Besides the free gift card, nothing really special here, but what do you want for a craft store LOL.

 Star Wars t-shirts for $5, need I say more?! (kidding, I know Michael's isn't for everyone)

  6. I read the article and I thought the person was very upfront about that fact that they are camping out to get a new tv for themselves. They also mentioned living on the donations of food and water, so I don't feel like this person is trying to hide anything.

I think they are taking the media attention they are going to get anyway and trying to put it to some good use. It is up to the public to decide if they want to donate to the cause or not. If someone is not comfortable donating or leaving items, they could always go directly to the organization and donate there.

Compared to other "first in line" BF stories, this one was not all about someone's material conquest.

  7. One of my favorite crafts to make are Christmas ornaments (I usually try to place the date they were made on them). We don't make ornaments as often now, but we still place the older handmade ones on our tree every year. I love it when my kids reminisce about making them.  :holiday07   ^_^

  8. At our house we have to watch The Nightmare Before Christmas and Elf, those are two of our faves. I also enjoy the movie Its a Wonderful Life and try to watch it every year. My daughter asked me to watch Polar Express with her a few years ago and now it is also at the top of our Christmas movie list. Thanks to everyone for listing some of your faves, we will have to check them out.  :holiday10

  9. I'm glad you started this thread, because I sometimes get a little nervous at Wal-mart as well and thought it was just me! I've seen the results of a few BF "battles", and as the time gets closer for the merchandise to be unwrapped, I get anxious that people will get too eager and start pushing or worse. Usually though, after the initial unwrapping, people tend to concentrate on quickly picking their item and moving on.   :holiday08

  10. Last year Radio Shack gave away a pair of touch screen gloves as a Black Friday freebie. Since then they have closed a lot of stores in my area, so I don't expect it again this year.

A few years ago, we had an actual winter season here in Oklahoma and it was extremely cold the Black Friday weekend that year. I remember freezing in line at Home Depot, waiting for the doors to open, and the employees came out with doughnuts, coffee, and hot chocolate for us. I thought it was the kindest gesture and it lifted the mood of everyone in line.  :holiday16

  11. It can be tough buying for teens! I love the gift card idea, it really a "one size fits most" kind of gift.

How about a scrapbook kit that includes everything to complete an album. You can purchase these with a coupon from a craft store such as Michael's; plus they come in different sizes so you could choose a big 12x12 album or something smaller, such as a 6x6 size. They also have photo frame kits; and you can buy extra themed stickers to add to the kits.

Does she like candles or incense? There are so many scents available now, and different type of candles out there. Wal-mart had a set last year around Black Friday that included the warmer and several packages of the candle cubes to start with.

If she doesn't like to burn candles or the scents, there are LED flameless candle sets. Some of them even change colors.

A giant-sized version of her favorite candy bar/snack. I usually see the giant Reese cups (for example) during the holidays.

I know it is tough buying Christmas on a budget because you want to make sure you buy what your child would like the most, and try to keep the surprise factor as well. Good luck with your shopping, I have a feeling you are going to do a great job this year.   :holiday12  :holiday07
