  1. Ok, cool. Looks like I might be able to open the box of the laptop I bought at BB last week! Just wanted to make sure there weren't going to be anything better before I opened it! ;) Thanks!

Keep in mind both BB and wally are prone to secret sales. The lack of a dual core lappy from wally is making me wonder if that will be on the secret sale list

  2. i agree with momlori. i absolutely LOATHE people who use black friday to scam or profit off good people. Get a real job and leave the profit making to the businesses. These are the same people probably buying up the whole lots of zhu zhu pets and making crazy bank off them when good people cant find ONE at the 7.99 STORE PRICE for their kids for christmas. That kind of behavior is so dirty. I am glad I wasnt raised to act like that and I will be sure to raise my kids the same.

So why may only businesses make a profit? They were just people starting up stores to. As for the zhu zhu pets to many people are on that band wagon. The market will soon be flooded on ebay and the things will be everywhere. For the record in the name of profit stores have uped the price on them to $9.99 - $11.99. Are they evil price gougers or just making a buck

  3. WOW - really hope I am not in line behind you. I would report you. I understand the need to make money but the person camping behind you wants to buy the same item. If you are the last person to get the ticket you just forced them to pay more to get it from you. The reason for the season is about love, giving, and family. Saving money is great but show some compassion for those behind you.

So what if i want to get a ticket for everything and buy all those items and then sell the items. Is that ok? Seriously BF is about making money not love and giving. Look up how it came about. If I wait 24 hours in the cold and have the tickets its my choice if I want to buy everything for me or buy it to sell or just sell the tickets.

  4. The tickets had no resale on them and the manager had the guy arrested after he would not leave the property. He got his tickets taken away. Year before last I posted photos of the incident. It was funny to see.

See he wasn't arrested for selling tickets he was arrested for refusing to leave the property after being asked to. We had that happen to a line jumper in our line 2 years ago. They can ask you to leave for selling tickets but they can't arrest you just for selling tickets.

  5. I'd avoid the DVD ones. So much as the slightest flaw in the disk or bump and the whole thing is ruined and you won't know it till later :( I had a whole batch of bad disks on our disney trip and you couldn't tell till after they burned. I found out after the trip. All the footage was corrupt and toast :( I'm looking for something new this year. The DVD one sits unused in the cabinet
  6. I agree with conj. I dont think this will be a major issue. Remember it is thanksgiving and most families spend it together.

Out of the 6 years I have done BF at BB I have only seen one person try to sell a ticket and they were arrested shortly after by the manager. Most of the people in front of the line are two types. BF die-hards like me who will camp for days or students (High School/College) who are in need of a laptop or desktop.

Arrested by te manager? I'm gonna call BS. These tickets have no value so even in states with scalping laws you can not be arrested. I have seen people told to leave and seen people escorted away by police but never arrested and certainly not by the manager lol. As far as ticket sales go I think people with less money will mean less likely to fork over some for a ticket. I admit I have sold tickets. I only ask $10 though. $50 is kinda nuts. I think the most I ever got was $20

  7. My issue with walmart is it doesn't matter how long I wait when the clock strikes it becomes a psyco free for all. I camp at Best Buy I know I'm getting what I'm after. Last year at walmart I was knocked over for a freaking camera. that said if Best Buy doesn't bring the deals I sure as hell won't freeze in a tent in front of their store. If HHGreg has good deals I may have to go there. Do they have a ticket system?
  8. Our BB manager has talked to us a few times since we lined up. The cheapest laptop is the $349 deal. Cheapest desktop is the $299 deal. He said he will be offering some other Geeked-Up laptops he is looking to clear out - not sub-$300 deals, but higher end laptops at great prices.

He also said there would not be alot of ticketed items as they have plenty of inventory. For example, they have 65 of the 32" Dynex TVs.

Well, we are sitting here watching Plains, Trains, and Automobiles. Happy Thanksgiving!

ugh that wouldn't surprise me. The lack of hints leaks nada makes me think our hopes might have been raised for nothing. Come on Best Buy you can't do this to us

  9. Well the local TV reporter said BB had a $300 laptop on the news. I trust he is telling the truth.

    As far as

Where in the blue hell are you shopping? You need to find a different place to shop! Out here the lines are nowhere near as long. 200 people was the most in line last year.

$379 could be the one he was reffering to or the $350 one

  10. ok so I'm kinda doubting the secret sale right now. I remember last year they teased us with it. There were banners online to check back for more blablabla. This year nada. Nothing in the flier to check for more deals online that will be in the store. No type of advertisment to tip people off. Anyone else concerned?
  11. They are pumping it up but I don't think its going to be as bad this year as last year. I have been doing this for years now and to me one indicator is the traffic in all the various BF forums seems A LOT slower to me this year vs years past. I remember laptop threads would be soooo long by now and this site would be crashing from the traffic over load by this time. I could be wrong but maybe Brad will tell us if there has been less traffic this year. I know it sure looks like there is at other sites.
  12. Not sure of the specs. In fact it is not even 100% confirmed. It is rumored that there will be one available real cheap. Not sure you really want to get one though, you'd be better ff with a laptop. Netbooks usually have very low RAM and a small hard drive, and no cd or dvd drive. About the only thing it is good for is going online. Any programs you want to install can't be installed from a cd, you have to locate the files onlin and download them onto a hard drive that is usually only about 8GB. They are nice and portable, but will never replace a laptop or PC. I'm going to be first on line and if there is a netbook I'll pass on it. Most people think a netbook is just a smaller laptop. I just wanted you to be aware in case you weren't what a netbook is.

Thanks for the heads up. I know what they are my uncle who has a high end laptop wants it for web purposes and such I guess. He is a tech geek so I'm sure he knows what he wants. I keep hearing varying specs so I'm curious

  13. It was still on their site about 1/2 hour ago.

The question that I have about that model has to do with the keyboard. I have a Toshiba Satellite a305.... great notebook all the way around except... the keyboard. It has flat-faced glossy keys. And the keys are pretty loud, making a distinct clicking sound as the key travels. Luckily I rarely use the built-in keyboard, but use an external usb keyboard, so it is not so bad for me... but I want to get the L305 for my wife who WILL be using the built-in keyboard.

Does the L305 have the same keyboard?

Not sure where you looked but there is a similar one on the site now but not this exact model number. You can find the exact model number and specs in the cache. I have no clue about noise on the keyboard

  14. An Advisory To All Those Who Come Seeking Help On The "Best" Laptop Deal This Year:

Describe how the computer will be used, and if it is for children or adults. Describe your price range and what specs you already know are most important to you.

    /advice

I think it's pretty obvious what the best low-end ($300-499) laptop is this season, just go to the Black Friday Ads page, look at the laptops, and sort by price.

As for higher end laptops ($500-$1000), I haven't the foggiest what you can expect in that range but I'm sure there is someone here who has crunched the #s and will be willing to talk about it at some point.

The Dell that you have linked there is in the class above the computers I'm looking at, you can get a Toshiba with better specs for about $200 less but some may tell you that the quality of a Dell is worth the price and smaller harddrive.

Right now I'm trying to figure out if either of the Toshiba Satellites that BB is selling have the built in webcam and mic. This could be a deciding factor between the 2 of them for me.

It appears that the laptop in the photo has the webcam (and presumably the mic), but I'm not sure if this is one of those "product may not be exactly as depicted" things.

    Take a look:

    http://blackfriday.gottadeal.com/black-friday-2250-Toshiba154DualCoreLaptopw4GB250GBTurion64X2.html

Also, what is the best way to use the model# information to exactly identify the laptop?

I can barely make it out printed in the add but a Google search just turns up random forum posts where people have entered that information.

The BB $379 Toshiba does have a webcam. Go to google and seach the model number. You will need to look at the cache pages because BB had this exact model on their site but they pulled it probably because of BF. It says it has a webcam These are the specs from that page. It looks pretty good so I'm after it

  16. My poor desktop sounds like a wounded wild animal. The fan keeps getting louder and if I do any updates now it just can't handle it. Its about 6 years old. So I plan to replace it this year with a laptop I can use at home and take to college with me. I want something with a dual core that can run vista and photoshop, office and all the basics. I don't game or do anything to major. I'm hoping for something around the $400 range. Think BestBuy will come through for me? I see Dell didn't lol. Help I need advice and guidence from people who know laptops :)
  17. I lived in a suburb last year and got to our BB at 1pm Thursday we were first in line. People started showing up VERY quickly after that. Were now outside Cincinati and I have no clue what time they line up here so I guess I need to do some research. Rarely do the lines just start after lunchtime on Thursday though.
