Help spread the word & win a BF t-shirt & GD backpack - CONTEST OVER!

Brad

Recommended Posts

Another chance to win a limited edition Black Friday t-shirt here on the forum :D

As we get closer to Black Friday, we could really use some help spreading the word that the site is open and that the ads should start appearing very soon. So here is what we're asking you to do:

Find 3 ways to help spread the word about Black Friday @ GottaDeal.com. This can mean posting about it on another forum or blog (if allowed), e-mailing your local newspapers and TV news stations (contacting the consumer reporter is a good idea), submitting the site as a story idea on another site or blog - any combination of 3 attempts to help spread the word.

Do at least 3 of those things and reply here telling us what you've done. Include URLs of the sites you've contacted or posted on if possible so we know who to thank if it leads to a big news story for GD.

We'll keep this contest going until Friday morning at 11am ET. At that point I'll randomly give away 3 prize packs to members who have completed this task. These winners will each receive a Black Friday t-shirt and a GottaDeal.com backpack!

You can mix-and-match as you'd like. So you can contact 3 local TV stations or contact 2 local newspapers and 1 TV station, or you can post on 2 other sites and contact a local newspaper, etc... however only things you do this week count - things you've posted in the past won't count for this contest - although we do appreciate them.

So you might be asking, "what should I tell them?"

Good question. Tell them the Black Friday site is open. Give them the URL:

http://blackfriday.gottadeal.com

Tell them how much you love the site and how useful it's been for you in the past.

Let them know that we've posted our predictions for this year's ads:

http://blackfriday.gottadeal.com/BlackFridayPredictions

and that it would make a good subject for a story.

Tell them about this great forum with all your fellow helpful and chatty members:

http://forums.gottadeal.com

And most importantly, tell them if they'd like to contact us about a story they might want to do, have them go here:

http://blackfriday.gottadeal.com/MediaRoom

Just be responsible. Don't spam. I realize that this is more work than just replying to a thread with your favorite store, but we could really use the help spreading the word. If the response to this request is high, I'll add more shirts and backpacks to the prize pool so you'll have a better chance to win.

I'm not sure how these apply, but, I am currently lecturing at several universites, colleges, and tech schools on budgeting, online and Christmas shopping, and coupon shopping.

1. This morning, I was featured on www.alice955.com.

2. I have a tech. school class tomorrow night, where I will be speaking about online shopping. My classroom is a computer lab, and I will be demonstrating how to efficiently use the site.

3. I have a public event scheduled for Thursday on coupon shopping, touching on BF. So far, I have nearly 150 registrants, and have scheduled a Christmas shopping class for the following week.

There will be several media outlets involved in #3, and possibly #2.

* Also, what is wrong with the post times? Brad posted at 1:50, steph at 2:26, and the final post from theboyzmom is at 12:22.

I contacted three local newspapers via email:

The Times Leader [email protected]

Kentucky New Era [email protected]

Paducah Sun [email protected]

Here is what I said:

While it is still early the hottest black Friday site on the web is open for business and the discussions are already going strong. Consumers can visit

http://blackfriday.gottadeal.com to track the early ad releasees and discuss shopping strategies with other Black Friday enthusiasts. There is also an area on this site that posts early predictions for this years ads which can be accessed at http://blackfriday.gottadeal.com/BlackFridayPredictions. With the current strain on the economy this Black Friday is expected to be bigger than ever. If you would like to contact the site moderators for a story you can reach them through the following link: http://blackfriday.gottadeal.com/MediaRoom. Also the site is open year round for frugal consumers to visit at http://www.gottadeal.com

Sent off three to the following...

Foxnews.com

Oprah.com

Cltv.com

Here is what it said:

You always see Black Friday news stories on Black Friday, usually it is all about shoppers lined up hours before stores with big sales open. Once inside the stores, shoppers often rush and grab, big draw items such as electronics and other popular toys because they are sharply discounted. The media covers the event, mentioning how early the shoppers began lining up at various stores and providing video of the shoppers standing in line and later leaving with their purchased items. However, with the upcoming Holiday season soon approaching, an article, months in advance of Black Friday, would be beneficial to Consumers. They can take advantage of Gottadeal.com, when planning their Black Friday shopping and get the best deals, tips and strategies to make the most out of their Black Friday shopping Event!

Gottadeal.com, the Official Black Friday Deals site (http://blackfriday.gottadeal.com) is open and with only 66 days to go and the economy the way it is today, many will want to take advantage of the useful Black Friday information, this site provides. They have covered Black Friday extensively for the past five years and based on their research, have already posted their predictions (http://blackfriday.gottadeal.com/BlackFridayPredictions) for this years ads and offer a glimpse into what they believe will be the 2008 Black Friday deals and hot items, as well as, some predictions for the actual prices you'll see these items selling for at this Black Friday.

GottaDeal.com has been featured in hundreds of newspaper, magazine, radio and television stories over the past four years, specifically for their popular Black Friday site and I think your viewers would appreciate the information this site (http://blackfriday.gottadeal.com/MediaRoom) provides, year after year!

I just wanted to recommend a story that I truly believe will help your audience in this time of economic uncertainty. I have been going to a website that over the years has saved me thousands of dollars. Its URL is http://blackfriday.gottadeal.com. Blackfriday.com is by far the best site for amazing savings and advanced notification of Black Friday ads.

This is a year round site that will benefit people as they struggle to get the best deals, while saving the most money.

The forums they provide gives the community a chance to help each other and at the same time get to meet people from all over the country.

I hope you will look into doing a more indepth story about this great find!.

OK - I spread the wealth across 3 different media forms:

I emailed the San Antonio Express News (our only real newspaper)

I emailed a popular news station (the local Fox network)

I emailed a national Christian radio station (KLOVE) who happened to run a story this morning that holiday spending will be down...what greater follow up than to tell people how they can find out about saving!

Thanks!

Dear local news station:

As many people in the area this year are having a tough time making ends meet, I would like to tell you about a website that provides fantastic deals and saves consumers time and money looking for great prices. The day after Thanksgiving is fast approaching, where many people will be looking for the best deals this year. Your viewers would probably be interested to know that there is a wonderful site which shows sale ads early and has fantastic deals year round! The Black Friday site is now open as well at http://blackfriday.gottadeal.com. They even list predictions for the ads at http://blackfriday.gottadeal.com/BlackFridayPredictions

As times are tight, it's a great idea to direct consumers to www.gottadeal.com because people really could use the assistance. But I have saved so much money since becoming a member last year that I would like to suggest that you do a story on this fantastic website. If you are interested, please contact http://blackfriday.gottadeal.com/MediaRoom. Well.. I hate to say that jenesparza beat me to it, but I also sent e-mails to WAVE-TV, WHAS-TV, WLKY-TV and WDRB-TV. I also sent e-mails to the newspapers around, Pioneer News and the Courier Journal. I just send the e-mails off. Here is what it said:

It's that time of the year again! The leaves are falling (so are the trees if you were caught in the windstorm) and the nights are turning cooler. The days are getting shorter and that can only mean one thing... CHRISTMAS SHOPPING! (Not what you were expecting was it?!) Now, as we all know, the official start of the Christmas shopping season is Black Friday or the day after Thanksgiving. A TON of people stand outside in the freezing cold just to get that rush for the door as the clock strikes 6. But.. you don't have to wait until the ads come out to find out what people will be standing in line for this year. Thats right.. the ads are generally coming out fast and furious during the late October, and November months. Where can you get it?! Just point your browser over to blackfriday.gottadeal.com While your there... check out the forums. It's always a good time discussing our "strategies" for the mad rush. Check it out! For more media information, check out GottaDeal.com and look for the Media Room.

Thanks!

Hope since someone already sent e-mails to these locations (some of these) that this still works. Thanks. wx4svr.

Here is my letter to the ones I have emailed:

Dear Sir or Madame:

I would like to submit an idea for a story/article for after Thanksgiving day shopping, also known as Black Friday shopping. With the ending of summer and the beginning of autumn, comes the anticipation of holiday shopping. I'm sure there are many just like me who look for the almighty bargain on a hot item for the season. With todays economy on the rise of higher prices, I would like to submit a great site I have frequented for a few years and this site has helped me save hundreds, if not thousands of dollars over the years. Their black friday site is now open http://www.blackfriday.gottadeal.com . They have posted their predictions for this years ads also and you can find them at http://www.blackfriday.gottadeal.com/BlackFridayPredictions .

I think it would make a great subject for a story! GottaDeal is a great site and our fellow members are not only chatty, but they are equally as helpful and informative too! http://www.forums.gottadeal.com .

If you would like to contact them about a story you might want to do, you can go here http://www.blackfriday.gottadeal.com/MediaRoom .

I would love to see a story for after Thanksgiving shopping done in our local paper for our community. I think it would be fun, exciting, and very informative for a lot of people. Thanks!

It would not let me add the links to the sites (it said I have not been a member long enough) so if they are needed just let me know and I can e-mail or whatever!

E-mailed the Ellen Degeneres show!...

Dear Ellen,

First and foremost I want to say your show rocks. The music, the dancing, the laughter makes every day I watch your show a brighter one.

I had a suggestion for a segment. As the holidays approach a segment on Christmas shopping/black friday shoppers would be fun. A great website to profile would be:

http://blackfriday.gottadeal.com

I've been a visitor to this site for three years and like the early morning rush of shopping. As ads are found they are posted and predictions are already up!

Most importantly there is a great forum for deal-hunting and discussion at http://forums.gottadeal.com.

To contact this awesome site visit http://blackfriday.gottadeal.com/MediaRoom.

I wanted to send the news on this awesome site to an awesome gal. Ellen Rock On!!!
