First, thanks for posting. Now is a great time to sign up for satellite TV service. Both DirecTV and Dish Network have great promotions for new customers. The two that have been most popular are as follows:

For DirecTV, we recommend going with Expert Satellite. They offer up to 5 rooms for free and you can also add things like TiVo for $49 extra. They also will give you a free DVD player through 7/17. DirecTV has a special where you only pay $29.99 for their Total Choice with Local Channels for the first 6 months.

If you want Dish Network, there was just a great deal announced from VMC Satellite. You receive free installation for up to 4 rooms, FREE digital video recorders in all rooms (record up to 100 hours) and up to two Free HDTV receivers if you choose to receive HD programming from Dish Network. Local channels are also free where available.

Either one of these two options are extremely good deals - it just depends on your preference of DirecTV vs. Dish Network. Both deals can be ordered online as well using the links I gave you.

If you have any more questions, please let me know.

That is a matter of opinion. I can't say as I still have regular analog cable service :(

I'd say check out the two companies' web sites and see which have better programming options. See what the rates are after the introductory specials. See if local channels are available. Also consider equipment. If you need DVRs in every room or HD-receivers, then the Dish deal might be better. If you don't or just want a DirecTV with Tivo in one room, then you might want to go with DirecTV.

I'm sure once RossMAN sees this thread he'll be able to comment on the differences.

Anyone else care to comment?

DirecTV is better.

Make sure to choose DirecTIVO.

There you have it, lol. The Expert Satellite deal would be best then. You can either pay $49 for the dual-LNB dish, or $69 for the tri-LNB dish if you think you might add HD-capability later on.

After your DirecTV is setup and you're using DirecTIVO, that 5 hrs/week will somehow turn to 10 hrs/week :)

PVR's really do change the way you watch TV, it's not a gimmick.

We have an old ReplayTV hooked up to our Apex 13" TV for $59.99 in our "computer room". What I love is being able to pause live TV when the phone rings, talk for 10 or so minutes then resume your TV show. When commercials show you can fast forward past those and catch up with the "live TV" broadcast.

As a "birthday present" for my wife I plan on buying the RCA DVR with DVD Player for $162 because of one main reason. There is no monthly or lieftime fee :)

The DirecTIVO fee is amazingly low, only $5 and it's well worth every penny.
