mesarobins Posted December 9, 2007 Share Posted December 9, 2007 We really haven't in past years but I have always felt guilty when they got a gift and we didn't have one in return. Last year was DD first year of Jr. High and several of her friends gave her gifts and we had nothing in return. This year she is asking about having some small gifts for several of her closer friends. I am glad she is thinking proactively and we are working out a simple combination of chocolate and body stuff that will cost around $3-5 each for about 5 friends. Now her younger sister who is 10 wants in on the game. It got me wondering how everyone else handles this whole gift giving thing and where you draw the line. amberleigh2 Posted December 9, 2007 Share Posted December 9, 2007 We don't really buy for friends @ school, but I do buy for my best friends kids & they are like my kids best friends too so kinda....I guess. Now my ds11 has had a "girlfriend" for over a year now ( yeah the same girl for a year..yikes) & I plan on getting her a giftcard. I don't think boys really get into the gift exchange thing but I'm sure when my dd6 is older she'll want to buy for her friends. This year her cheer squad is having a gift exchange so I guess I have to do that too, just one gift though & the spending limit is $10. gingersunshine Posted December 9, 2007 Share Posted December 9, 2007 we picked up a few bracelets @ goody's on BF (regular price $14-$16, got on BF for $3-$4). the bracelets are cute and trendy for preteen girls. and i always have my two pick up a few extra, they get put up for an unexpected gift for themselves. i put it in their stockings or save for a later time in the year. the friends love them, as some come with earrings. and my two are estatic to recieve them, too! we usually stock up on bags after x-mas and the white wrapping paper for an easy gift that costs around $4 and looks alot pricer! Last year he got her a big stuffed animal from the Disney store. This year he got her a small stuffed animal from the Disney store and a Tinkerbell blanket. I think it's cute. They have exchanged gifts for Christmas, B-Days, V-day and Easter. She invited him to her dance recitial and he sat right beside her Dad. They are 2 little girls that she goes to gymnastics with that she has fun being around and their moms and I talk the whole 45 minutes they are in gymnastics, lol. we talk about family, friends, DH's, and anything really. She had to save up her own money and buy it herself which she did on black friday! She understands more when she has to spend her own money! Plus we had 55 people to buy for including all the teachers and such. My dd6 in kindergarten wants to give every girl in her class a present and ds7 could care less. biomajor Posted December 9, 2007 Share Posted December 9, 2007 My DD is 15 (16 in January) and is giving "real" presents to 3 of her closest friends--2 of them are getting digital photo key chains, and one a gold necklace. She is also making up little candy bags with a LOT of that 90% off halloween candy that I picked up for about 40 of her "acquaintance" type friends. A few of them will have extra stuff in them for the more special of them though, like little mini staplers I found for 10 cents and some of those decks of cards off the 75% off One Spot and stuff like that. Sounds very innocent which I would hope it would be at 9. Also I think it is wonderful that her family is including him, kudos to that family. When she brings a boy home when she is 16 it will be very normal and natural for all of them, because that is how it has been since she was small.
